• James Cameron Heads For Mariana Trench to Film Avatar Sequel and Capture X Prize
Director James Cameron has commissioned Australian designers to build a sub that can plunge 36,000 feet beneath the surface of the ocean, hoping to combine his love for deep waters with his apparent craving for cash. If he can pull it off, he could win a $10 million X Prize and shoot footage for an “Avatar” sequel simultaneously. The Daily Mail first reported the story, saying the sub would be made of composite materials and powered by electric motors. It would have to survive the immense pressures experienced at seven miles below the surface of the ocean, where Cameron hopes to shoot 3-D footage to incorporate into the second Avatar film. The sub would be designed to explore the Challenger Deep, a 35,994-foot deep depression in the southern end of the Mariana Trench. It’s the deepest known spot in the oceans and has only been explored three times — but since the first daring 1960 attempt in the Trieste, no one has tried a manned descent. Attempting such a feat would hardly be a first for the director, who has waded into deep waters several times on behalf of his films, including “Titanic” and “Aliens of the Deep.” The “Avatar” sequel will reportedly be set in the fictional oceans of Pandora. Later this year, the X Prize Foundation is expected to formally announce a $10 million award to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Trieste's dive. The winnings will go to the first privately funded sub to make two repeat manned descents to Challenger Deep. Not content to earn more money than anyone in the history of moving pictures, HMFIC apparently wants an X Prize, too.
Source: http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2010-09/james-cameron-seeks-worlds-toughest-sub-hoping-film-avatar-sequel-and-capture-x-prize
That's deep.
Why does he need to make a sequel, I realize there's a lot of money to be had but is that all it comes down to nowadays? The only thing I can look forward to anymore is a Nolan film.
Avatar Sequel? Underwater? Didn't everyone pretty much die in the first one, though?
I bet this one is based on The Little Mermaid.
Marijuana trench
Avatar Sequel? Underwater? Didn't everyone pretty much die in the first one, though?
Not Jake Sully or Neytiri.
Marijuana trench. Deep shit.
I bet this one is based on The Little Mermaid.
Atlantis The Lost Empire.
Not Jake Sully or Neytiri.
Well we have the plot now. They found a new home after the tree was destroyed, and the new home is under water. The humans come back, find a valuable resource under water, and they just happen to find it inside the new home. War ensues, more people die. Happy ending. There you go everyone. I just saved you the money from having to watch it.
Doees he really need 10 million dollars? someone with talent could use that money.
Will be interesting I guess, not tooooo many underwater films around
The humans come back, find a valuable resource under water, and they just happen to find it inside the new home.
Unprocurium.

Who cares about their abstract ideas and impressions and beliefs they represent or express. If it makes money, then you do it. If it doesn't, it's not worth doing. The culture of the world is slowly dying.
Well we have the plot now. They found a new home after the tree was destroyed, and the new home is under water. Fuck, even so, the humans know where that "life tree" thing that the aliens were defending at the end of the movie. All they have to do is shoot that from orbit. What the FUCK do they need a sequel to explain that for? [editline]07:04PM[/editline]
I bet this one is based on The Little Mermaid.
I don't know about anyone else, but I felt the first movie leaned more toward "Dances With Wolves" more than "Pocahontas".
I don't care what it leaned towards, it was still shit.
I don't care what it leaned towards, it was still shit.
I'll agree with that wholeheartedly. [editline]07:10PM[/editline]
I thought he always intended Avatar to be a trilogy, and su=ince he has the money to fund it he's going for it
A fucking trilogy? It's bad enough they made the first one, let alone making a second one!! :suicide:
Just imagine the fanbase by the end of it :v:
I thought he always intended Avatar to be a trilogy, and su=ince he has the money to fund it he's going for it
I know he intended for it to be a trilogy. That doesn't mean he has to go ahead with it. Fuck, we're getting three Avatars but we couldn't get 3 Cameron Terminators? What is with fucking trilogies lately anyway...
So instead of Pocahontas it's Waterworld? The little mermaid?
how the fuck are they gonna include the marinarias trench in the second one its 36000 feet deep and exerts 8 tons of pressure per square inch
So instead of Pocahontas it's Waterworld? The little mermaid?
Drylandium is the new Unobtainium. Fuck, I wanna watch Waterworld now. I saw it when I was a kid and I didn't think it was that bad. Time for a review.
Waterworld is widely believed to be one of the worst movies of our time. Also, does this mean that Humanity is coming back? I hope they win this time. I think the only people that didn't want Humanity to win was James Cameron and the Avatards.
yes, the oceans of pandora, where the sh'mavi lived in piece at home kelp until the dastardly department of homeland security in space arrived, infiltrated their community with crafty "archetypes", blends of sh'mavi and human dna, before burning down home kelp and being repelled by the natives 2 billion dollars and an x prize please
I'm 90% sure they fight mermaids and/or sharks
abyssatar.
terminator 2 sucked compared to terminator 1, and that's only because he stole everything in terminator 1 from old sci fi shows that were written by better writers than him.
I like T2 better. Only because of Ahnold.

Terminator was at least interesting in that it wasn't the same fucking thing as every other fucking action movie made by every other fucking director.
