Just something for graphic design, typing reports and essays and surfing the net.
I've narrowed it down between the Macbook with 4 gigs of memory and a 250 gig HD for 1099 or a Macbook Pro with 4 gigs ram and a 320 gig HD for 1499.
Which should I get?
the MacBook Pro is the better buy since it's using a newer GPU, it's using the 320M which supposedly is 80% faster than the 9400m which is what the MacBook uses. it also has a faster CPU.
BUT the refresh for the MacBooks should be coming up soon so if you can wait I would suggest to wait.

Pretty much this.
I'd say if you can afford the MacBook Pro, get that.
I'm buying a Mac Mini. Mostly because it's cheap. Don't really care about portability. I have a netbook for that.

I would get a Mac Mini but I have no need for one.
The one that isn't called a Mac.
I like the idea of a small computer that can be hidden away. plus Mac Minis were good for Source games in Boot Camp. they need to be updated with the 320M and a faster CPU.

by a ninja duck.
none they're all bad
Get the MacBook Pro, its graphics card is worth every penny.
One that's not from apple. If you want mac os, build a computer and install mac os, you'll save money.
Mac fanboys r8 cause you're too blind to see that you paid extra for a shiny computer with somewhat decent hardware.
I rated you box because people can buy what they want regardless of what you think about that product.
I should rate you box because I never held him down and force fed him the decision not to, I simply said that a better alternative would be building your own computer..
you're saying that someone shouldn't buy something because it costs more than similar products. that's your opinion (which I respect) but the OP wants a Mac so they should buy what they want but isn't sure what model to get.
I'm just tired of people going "OMG DON'T BUY MACS! THEY COSTS MORE AND THEY BAD!" it's just an opinion but some people seem to think that everyone thinks like they do and if they don't they should.
What I'm trying to say is if someone wants a certain product from a company but there are different versions/models and they need help deciding which to buy others who disagree with their choice shouldn't go and call that person dumb for wanting the product. people buy what they want to buy.

He didn't say Mac's are bad, he said it's a over-priced product with somewhat decent hardware... None in this has been going "OMG DON'T BUY MACS! THEY COSTS MORE AND THEY BAD!" jet, so don't just jugde the other users for saying something else... And he didn't say the person was dumb for wanting that product, he suggested a alternative. Most Windows users in here are decent guys, not wanting to start a bash-fight, it's no idear.. Calm down and stop judging people.

I never said he did say that, I was stating that I'm tired of people who do that. I know initially misread his post, but I decided to rant anyways.
Well, most people in here are nice so no need to rant anybody, if there's no specific post that you want to rant...
yes, most people here are nice but there are some morons who come into the Apple subforum and troll. there are some prime examples of fanboys coming in here and just being dumb, two even got perma'd in another thread; http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=21999441#post21999441. I guess the base for my rant was caused by others in other forums, and here on FP,I go to people just to crazy if you mention owning or purcahsing a Mac.
read my other post, I admitted I originally misread your post and just decided to rant.
abd yeah saving is nice, but for some people money isn't an issue.
Money isn't an issue?
I laughed so hard.
Everybody loves to save money, especially in this shitty economy.
I know people who don't gave a shit about how much they spend.
Well that's pretty sad, imo.
I could use some money. :/
I could too.
We should sell people PC's with Mac OS on them, call them Macs, sell them for just a bit cheaper than a Mac. Make a profit.
some company did, Apple raped them.
If you have the money, go for the Pro... However the Mac Book will do the job just fine.
I have the same spec as your Mac Book description and i do audio editing and production and its fine for that.
the MacBooks came out yesterday are they're basically the same as the MacBook Pro.

No one is saying that Macs suck.
It's a commonly known fact, (among computer literate people) that PCs are much more cost efficient. I have no problem if you want a Mac. But what bugs me is the that people want Macs, simply because it's a Mac. It just shows their ignorance to alternatives. (I'm not at all suggesting that you are like that, it's just an example of why I sometimes rage at pure blood Mac users.)
Macs are good. I like OSX. It's a different experience from Windows, I have a MacBook and a desktop. Both perform nicely, but I paid a lot less for my Desktop.
OP, if you have the money, go for a MacBook Pro. If not, the MacBook with perform just as good for the things you wish to do with it.
[editline]09:17PM[/editline]
Oh, and by the way. Technically only one person got perma-banned in that thread.
you have failed the reading test.
you have failed the reading test.
Oh..What'd I miss? :pwn:
I never said anyone here said Macs were bad, I said in general most people on forums, including FP, do that, basically I'm just getting sick of it.
OP, i'm in the same boat as you (except i will be using it for music production)... but i would think that it would be the right move to go pro if you have the cash.
The difference between the Macbook and the 13" Macbook are really not that noticeable.
The audio quality is exactly the same from the built in speakers, and they now have the exact same video cards on them (The 320 GTM). Sure, the MBP has a Core i5 processor onboard, but the MB just got upgraded to a 2.44 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Anyways, I've heard mixed reviews about the Core i5 processor software that's built in. However, if you can afford the 15" MBP I would get it. Larger screen, better keyboard, better processor option, yada yada. But they are quite expensive.
But everyone seems to have forgotten that you gave us 2 options from the start. Of the 2, I would go with the MBP with 4gb RAM and the Core i5.
