Note: I've found threads about Girl Talk and specific mashup mixes, but not a general mashup thread.
This thread is about an age old mixing technique which has recently grown in popularity. "Mashups" are pieces of music in which 2 or more tracks are sampled together to create a whole new song. It's a fun and usually danceable genre that shouldn't be taken TOO seriously.
With that said I'll now list off a few popular mashup DJs that everyone interested in the genre ought to try out.
Girl Talk - The guy that really catapulted mashups to the forefront of the dance music scene in the past few years. His latest album is available for download from his website. http://74.124.198.47/illegal-art.net/__girl__talk___feed__the__anima.ls___/
Super Mash Bros. - A Girl Talk-esque pair that focuses less on technicality and fast transitions and more on fun and humorous combinations. They also have 2 free albums available for download here: http://lazerwolf.com/
I'll be digging through my collection and adding more DJs but I figure these 2 are great to start with because of their popularity and the availability of their albums.
Here's another cool mashup album available for free. It's the music of Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time used as beats for rapping.
Team Teamwork - The Ocarina of Rhyme
can't deny a free album. I already had Girl Talk's. checking out Super Mash Bros now
Super Mash Bros will leave you giggling the entire time, they are fucking geniuses.
The Girl-Talk mashups work so well.
Try Party Ben as well. He's awesome.
