Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley has won a majority government, ending the 44-year reign of the Progressive Conservatives, CTV projects.
Notley’s NDP will form the next government and Jim Prentice’s PCs will find themselves in opposition alongside the Wildrose Party.
Although not all votes are counted, Notley appears to have won enough seats to form a majority government in the 87-seat legislature.
that's rad!
On the plus side the oil companies won't have a problem finding crude now because their executives' pants are currently filling with it
Thank fuck. Hopefully this gives the provincial NDP some momentum.
NDP in BC pls
NDP in BC pls
yes! ... maybe then we can have some decent bc ferries prices

I'm leaning this way. I just hope their history doesn't repeat itself here.
It's about time NDP was in federal though... just sayin
This might translate into more support for the federal NDP from Alberta.
Wow, what happend to produce such a swing?

Oil price.
Good to see my vote mattered
I can't believe I'm saying this, but good job Alberta.
So what does this mean? My friend seems upset by this and I have no idea what the NDP are possibly going to be doing since i live in BC.

the most famously far right province just voted in a pretty far left provincial government. It's great
Wild Rose won in my riding, but I still feel like my vote for NDP mattered. I can't wait to read the comment sections on news sites from upset conservatives. And if the most conservative province in Canada can elected the center-left party, the rest of Canada can rally together to kick out the federal Conservatives in October.
Suddenly the national election sounds a lot more exciting now that Alberta is NDP.
Probably has a lot to do with the influx of workers from other provinces, gj alberta

We were sick of the PCs after over 40 years, Jim Prentice was a douche who tired to blame us for the economic problems and his budget was retarded and there were a lot of young people who actually voted for once and they overwhelmingly supported the NDP.
Should also be said that Wildrose got a nice boost out of dissatisfaction with the PCs. Good for them given that their leader, deputy leader and a good chunk of their party jumped ship to the PCs back in December.
Someone explain to me what the benefits are to the NDP winning?

Decrease in oil price, years and years of mismanagement, influx of people from outside of Alberta, right-wing vote split between PC and Wildrose, and the NDP running a good campaign.

If I understand it correctly, with an NDP in charge, the healthcare budget wont get slashed and a there will be a 2% increase of taxes to businesses instead of middle class citizens.
It's a shame wild rose got in our riding. We were getting so close to getting our own hospital.

After four decades of PC leadership it's completely impossible to say what kind of a job the NDP will do because there's no past track record to look at.
They would have to work quite hard to do a worse job, though.

I feel the debate also played a big part.

Don't forget a royalties review for big oil.
My riding, Calgary-Shaw, was the only one in the south of Calgary to elect an NDP person.

Better than the fucking liberals at least.

benefits?
Well, it was nice knowing you Alberta.
I'm wondering how long it's going to take before the Albertans regret this decision.

It was either that or electing the idiots who fucked up the province or the idiots who wanted to fuck up the province even harder. Not a hard decision to make.

Ontario thought the same thing 25 years ago. We're still regretting it.
It's a sad state western democracy is in when you have to try and vote not on who will do the best job, but who will fuck you over the least.
