So I recently purchased myself a Dlink DIR-615 router (Less than a month ago actually) Just today it stopped working, I called tech support and they gave me some nonsense about a manufacturing defect. The guys at the electronics store where I work warned me to not buy a D-Link router, saying they have reliability issues and they stop working intermittently. I decided to just go for it anyways. Alas, it broke.
My criteria for a new router is as follows
- Decent wired speed
- Decent wireless range
- Reliability of connection
- Under $90 CDN
Any suggestions?
Linksys E-whatever
Anything linksys
I've got good personal experience with the Sitecom WL-368, good wireless coverage and gigabit speeds, I also like the simplicity of it since it comes preconfigured and that it is easy to manage.
Linksys WRT54GL
I don't mind having to configure the router myself.
I've heard great things about linksys. Any specific models I should take a look at?

This, Shove DD-WRT on it.
Most reliable router I have ever had, and my routers don't get light usage.

119 days? I get 20 days at max with my current router. My ADSL modem's better in that regard though.

Linksys routers are always good as suggested above.
If not that, belkin are not bad.
I would recommend D-Link. Very simple routers to install and configure like Linksys, but D-Link actually have a reliable record for me so far.
I have had 2 Linksys routers in the past, both the original WRT54Gs. Both of them would reset all their connection data whenever the power went out.
Recommending any D-Link DIR series router.
I've been using Linksys routers for a long, long time. The last 3 have each just quit working for no reason. I decided to switch to a D-Link, which so far I love (its the DIR-601). It just does more than my old Linksys routers, and I paid $30 for it. However, I still have my WRT54GS, and it still works. Look for something in the WRT54G series, whether that's a GS or a GL. I love Linksys' old stuff, but I hate their new stuff. Notice how none of the boxes look alike any more so you can't stack them?
Alot of router problems can be fixed via firmware upgrades so give that a shot first before buying a new one.
I had a netgear router. Max download speed I would get is about 500kbs on Steam. Now with this DLink I get about 600/700/1MB on Steam and about 3 -4mb on Ijji
Netgear are perfect for me, the reason is they have great wireless range. My router is upstairs, bundled behind tables and cables, and yet still, through 3 walls, 1 floor, a microwave and a mirror, I still get a good 20% signal strength. Unless the microwave is on. Then I get about 10% :v:
If signal strength is what you need, I recommend Netgear. If you want mods, then Linksys WRT54GL

The problem is it won't let me get into the routers settings, my computer doesn't even recognize it exists. And it was running the most recent firmware as well.
Anyways, seems like the WRT54g is my best bet. Would you suggest DD-wrt, or Tomato firmware?
you must be doing something wrong if you can't get into your router's settings.

DD-WRT
Simple, yet with tons of settings at the same time.
Anything netgear or linksys, but keep it above $40 or there's a chance it's complete shit.
I use this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124388&cm_re=linksys_wireless_router-_-33-124-388-_-Product
I personally love it It has great range all across the house with pretty decent speeds
