So basically I've been asked to reinstall Windows on a particular VAIO laptop (VPCEB35FX to be clear), and some devices are still listed as uknown. I took the drivers from here (obviously none of that bloatware stuff, only actual device drivers).
The problem is, I got three devices listed as unknown: an Ethernet controller, a base system device and an unknown device. Some of the driver descriptions say that they fix this very problem:
This utility installs the originally shipped version of the Ricoh PCIe Memory Stick Host Controller driver.
This driver also resolves the yellow exclamation point error Device Manager Exclaimation Point Error that may appear in Device Manager next to "Base System Device" which indicates that a driver is not installed for that device.

This utility installs the originally shipped version of the Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device driver.
This driver also resolves the yellow exclamation point error Device Manager Exclamation Point Error that may appear in Device Manager next to "Unknown Device" which indicates that a driver is not installed for that device.

This utility installs the originally shipped version of the Marvell Yukon 88E8059 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver.
This driver also resolves the yellow exclamation point error Device Manager Exclaimation Point Error that may appear in Device Manager next to "Ethernet Controller" which indicates that a driver is not installed for that device.
The thing is, I've already installed them and rebooted the laptop numerous times, and they're still not recognized! What should I try?
Try and get the drivers from the devices manifacturers sites.
Thanks, will try
Got the drivers for the last two, but the fucking ricoh memory stick controller doesn't want to eat anything I throw at it
go onto PCI Database and plonk in the DEV ID.

There's a lot of Sony's and other vendors' drivers for it, but nothing seems to do the trick

Tried this one:

No luck
Also, at this point there are probably lots of unnecessary drivers from random vendors, how to get rid of them?
