Sometimes my computer basically slows to a halt. I won't even be running any intensive stuff. I'll try clicking something, and nothing happens. Eventually i also lose control of my mouse and i am forced to reboot. Is there a way to diagnose what causes this? I'm fairly sure nothing is overheating...
Most hardware related issues that doesnt involve overheating is caused by faulty RAM. You can peform a memtest: http://www.memtest86.com/.

Force restart you PC, open BIOS and check your Hardware Monitor to make sure that CPU is not overheat. Because it definitely sounds like an overheating problem.
check task manager for any processes using up large amounts of ram and CPU also check for malware download combofix and/or hitman pro and run a scan
