Hope that by "Will support an offline mode" they mean that thing some devs do sometimes where you can just run the .exe and it works without steam, but without steam's features. Steam's offline mode is kind of a gamble for many. And this is one game that people will probably run on "Don't update automatically" since updates tend to break mods and stuff like that. Steam is good. Steam is DRM, but it's not really intrusive, and it has a really decent anticheat and server system.
Is Steam's offline mode still bugging out for people? Always worked for me as long as it managed to verify my acc during initial login. Heck I didn't even bother to switch it to offline mode, it just kept running and gave me some cloud synch warnings on certain games, which is to be expected and can easily be clicked away.
Dunno what you guys are on about with offline mode, it always works for me when I have no internet access
Dunno what you guys are on about with offline mode, it always works for me when I have internet access
I think Offline Mode would live up more to the name if you could play Steam games with internet at all since its Offline mode after all. When i did not had internet for 3 days i could not get into Offline mode because you had to log in first (Even though my account auto-logs in/Password is saved.)
Offline mode works for me. You have to keep your password saved with steam, and you must go into and back out of offline mode while having internet access. After that, it will work as expected on that computer. I don't see why they make you do that, though.
If it supports steam only, you must use steam to use it. So use steam support if its giving you trouble(offline mode), they should be able to help you
didn't Valve fixed offline mode a few months ago?
Offline mode works fine. You just need to at least be online once and play a game (or the game, can't remember) so that Steam can create some file or something for offline usage.

A lot of people won't be happy about this. There's quite a few I know that won't fucking TOUCH Arma+Steam. I've never had any problems with it ever, and I'm sure most people haven't, but they swear it causes problems
Do you guys know that you have to manually exit steam before you turn your computer off? That usually solves the problem.
The BIS forums are like reading yotube comments atm, it's quite funny
Blegh. I remember when they said nothing could happen to D2D, when it hits steam I will be in my corner as as old man chuckling. I have to forcibly restrain myself from posting whilst in this anti-steam mood. So im going to log out as I have no idea what my password is here.

steam only is really disappointed.. i hate steam and try to avoid it as much as possible.. i rather wait to 2014 if it means regular version.

You would see my face right now you would understand that your sentence is an understatement. Twenty five year of PC gaming to see this happening. Oh God please help me.

As someone who played BI games since the OFP Demo, I only have this feedback to offer: You guys suck. At least I don't have to upgrade my computer for Arma3 now.

I agree. I don't want ArmA 3 to be tied down to something I may or may not want, and in this case definitely do not want. Valve is trying to make Steam a monopoly on digital game distribution, as part of their quest for control and money. Steambox is another step down that road, but that's another story.

I've said this before, I will say it again and expand: Valve is out for money and control, and to a dangerous extent. People are already awakening to its danger: http://www.examiner.com/article/steam-is-killing-pc-gaming
Offline Mode does not work if you are coming from a fresh computer restart. Steam requires you to log in the first time you use it on that session and if you have no internet connection then you can't get it to run. This was my problem when the internet was out for a few days because of the wind/snow and my computer decided it was time for automatic updates! So, yeah, Steam will work without an internet connection if you already had it running, but it does not have a designated offline mode despite calling it that, which is stupid.
ARMA 3 can't come sooner.

Still that is problem.
I think the ARMA 2 DRM is hilarious. First it fucks with your accuracy making you miss every shot. Then it turns you into a goat.
The BIS forums are like reading yotube comments atm, it's quite funny

But guys! guys! Steam has ACHIEVEMENTS! I mean you can show off to your friends who have the exactly same achievements how awesome you are. Who cares about being forced to use only Steam's server browser and not being able to use the one you prefer, only Steam's anti-cheat that devs have no say about. And hugeass patches. And mods not working. And no modselectors. And being eternally stuck with a crappy DRM. Who cares about that when you can select your userpic and everyone will see it! That's so awesome!

And that's another reason why it shouldn't be Steam-only and have Steamworks. Players who want to measure their e-peen should stay away from ArmA. Who cares about more players if they are going to be junk ruining the game for everyone who wants to play the game not be "awesome"?
^ to the post above Where the fuck did he get any of that info? I've never had Steams mess up mods, in fact Workshop has been a godsend. Bah, people will complain about anything. Steam's very open to developers. It's almost always developers who fuck up Steam integration.
I only own arma just to play the dayz mod :v:

If you suggested fluid animations he would jump on you for being 'mainstream' and a Battlefield or CoD fan. Nevertheless, I understand where he is coming from with part of his post. The ArmA community is very tight nit through the bis forums. People love the fact that there are usercreated websites and updaters like armaholic and sixupdater. They feel that there won't be enough flexibility for the community to decide what goes and what does not. It is like the ultimate freedom in comparison to every other game.

Again, Valve is very flexible, I'm sure if Bohemia wanted mods from other websites they'd be fine with it. I personally think that the Workshop could use a much better UI, but besides that it's great.
The BIS forums are like reading yotube comments atm, it's quite funny
The last two of these are HILARIOUSLY inaccurate and shows how much they know about it. If valve was out for money, why would they be publically stating they want to distance steam from Valve? And that examiner article is just.....bad
After all, it's from Steam that the client-based DRM scheme was first introduced to and popularized in gaming
It really wasn't the first client based drm and infact steam never tried to be DRM but instead started life and primarily focused purely on content delivery. And the idea that steam is killing pc-gaming? Let's completely forget what steam did for indie games and pc games as a whole by allowing mass content delivery and spotlights. My sarcasm is never badly typed.
Does workshop allow executables and libs?
I didn't mind this until yesterday, when I finally received my physical copy of Hitman in the post after it gotten lost and after installing and connecting to steam to activate found out I need to download 2GB to play, that would cost me £15 on mobile broadband which is more than I paid for the fucking game. I had no such problem with Farcry 3 on Uplay.
