I will be surprised if this is true, IIRC Thi4f did poorly critically and financially.
If they really are working on a movie, it's probably a tie in. Either way, no Stephen Russell, no sale
In this day and age when one game failing to meet expectations can sink a company and get an IP put on hold indefinitely, how is this possible?
Games like Hitman get threw in the trash and games like Thief 4 get to continue breathing.

So if they're going for another swing at things, they've got a LOT to do to make Thief 5 be the comeback the series deserves. In my opinion, they should make it more like Dark Project and Metal Age, while taking some of the better bits from Deadly Shadows and the 2014 game. For as much as I give the game grief, even Thief 2014 had some aspects that're worth cherry-picking.
Now, I could go ahead and write an entire fucking dissertation on what Thief 2014 did wrong, but I already said my piece on the subject about two years ago, so I'll give a more concise post-mortem. While I didn't have all that many problems with the personal mechanics, I didn't enjoy the hub-world wandering as much as I could have, and as for the story, well, it was too far detached from the original timeline and wrung out all the colourful and interesting stuff from the setting.
When it comes to what I would have changed about it, what Thief 4's story would have been if I were in charge (for better or for worse), my opinion from two years ago still stands.
