Looking to find myself a new monitor, 22-24 inch, <£200. I'm looking for a gloss coated (reflective) monitor, but cannot find any, all that turns up is monitors described as having a glossy bezel. Anyone know any actively for sale?
Why in gods name would you want one? They screw up colour, get dirty much easier, show up fingerprints more and make working in a bring room impossible
because they offer better contrast. The reason why apple's displays seem to have insane contrast is because they have mirror-like finishes on the screen. Glossy will make anything look better. EDIT: I should rephrase, that they don't make the contrast better, but they make the colors appear more vivid.
A glossy display is an electronic display with a glossy surface. In certain light environments glossy displays provide better color intensity and contrast ratios than matte displays. The primary disadvantage of these displays is their tendency to reflect any external light, often resulting in an undesirable glare.[1][2][
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossy_display

I don't touch or let other's touch my monitors. Light is behind the monitor. Now please, any suggestions?

Ugh sorry I completely forgot to mention, if not guessed by the £, it needs to be UK. [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] Those are matte anyway..
that's a dumb requirement, why not just ask for the best monitor for your budget? Use this: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/selector.htm

I understand that people prefer matte displays, but in this thread I am simply asking does anyone know of any glossy monitors.. It's what I'm looking for guys.
I know, I wanted to correct him. Two minutes [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] wait don't you do web design?
I know, I wanted to correct him. Two minutes [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] wait don't you do web design?
I dabble, but I have a completely different monitor for that.
No, they have high contrast ratios because they use PVA or IPS panels, better than that TN shite.
yes, but its also from the fact that the screen is glossy. I have a Dell u2410 which is a IPS panel with a matte screen, tomshardware charts say the colors are better on this than there are on the Apple Cinema Display, but the Apple still looks better in person, why? Because the screen is glossy. It's a basic known fact that glossy screens make colors look more vivid.
I hate glossy screens. When i play games, I don't want to look at myself or the door behind me.
Guess people can't accept the truth...
A glossy display is an electronic display with a glossy surface.
Why in gods name would you want one? They screw up colour, get dirty much easier, show up fingerprints more and make working in a bring room impossible
They make color brighter, it's easy to clean, and maybe he works in a dark room?
Why in gods name would you want one? Dirt, where are you to get dirt on your monitor. Finger prints? Why are you touching your monitor?
My notebook has one and it's shit. I have to clean the son of a bitch every 3 days at least. The color gain isn't worth all the hassle, sincerely. If I'm not on a dark room I have to use maximum brightness.
yeah... because its a notebook. Notebooks are subjected to a lot more exposure than a display that justs sits on your desk. Honestly it sounds like you haven't had much experience with glossy displays.
Do you ever sneeze without a tissue handy? And colour looks richer, but not accurate. I can't possibly do colour work on a glossy display. They won't calibrate with my friends ColorVision Spyder

They are designed to be portable, and you can't always control the lighting in your environment. Reflections are annoying. Especially outside. At least with a regular glossy desktop monitor, you can place it so its facing away from lights and windows.

You know, if you don't like glossy displays on laptops, several companies make matte films that go on the screen. That way when it's dark you can take it off and get the shiny colors.
They don't, they use the matte ones that are now out of production. I would rather use an EIZO over an Apple Cinema Display

Probably because its a pretty old one though from late 2006.

Lacie, Eizo, NEC, Hazro, Viewsonic and Dell.

Anything Glossy will make something any image of anything look better, I had a book the other day, and I had this laminated plastic, and I put it on the top of the book cover, and everything looked way better on the cover, It's weird how that is, but that's kind of how it works. I don't really like Glossy monitors to much, guess cause I've never owned one, I should visit the store and just play on one for a while, see how I like it.
So discussion put to the side... anyone know any monitors?
