You may recall that when I posted an item about the Jerusalem synagogue terror attack a while ago I was a little snarky about the way BBC chose to word their title in a way that sort off glossed over the fact we were talking about, you know, an axe murder spree.
Apparently this kind of overly neutral wording is common when foreign media reports about goings on here, to the point headlines can imply the opposite of what actually happened.
Case in point: this is how CNN initially reported the Jerusalem synagogue terror attack:

The Israeli internet responded with even more snark than me:

Eventually CNN published an official apology (Hebrew) through their PR office in Israel saying "While CNN has updated its report on the terror attack on the synagogue in Jerusalem earlier today, our report did not immediately reflect the fact that the two Palestinians killed were the perpetrators of the attack. We were wrong and we apologize for the mistake." (Translated by me)

I applaud these Israelis for being able to make a good Hitler joke. Laughter is the best medicine.
The airplane accident one is some top grade stuff

godDAMN that's a fucking zing :v:
I didn't like the knife one :(
[editline]3rd December 2014[/editline]
Mainly because it's such a horrible picture.
Yeah, the knife one seems a bit too fresh and personal for Israel to be making a joke of so soon.

I think the point is less a joke and more "how would you feel if it was being reported like that?".
Also, it's not "Israel" making these. It's Israelis. There's a difference.

I don't know, there's a bigger difference in the whole ironic reporting thing when you're watching an open execution of a person as opposed to hearing about a certain numbers of deaths at a given event.
9/11 and Pearl Harbor are things of the past at this point. Americans think on it sometimes, but the constant reminders of the terror attacks are fading from daily life for the most part. But seeing some American recently executed by ISIS is a lot more controversial than those two events are right now because it happened not even a year ago. CNN's reporting is in bad taste, but that picture is worse. I don't think too many people give a shit about the other ones though.

These memes are in response to a very recent terror attack against innocent civilians in a synagogue who were murdered with axes and butcher knives. More recent than the ISIS execution, in fact.
Is it really that difficult for you to see how CNN reporting the attack as "Deadly attack on Jerusalem mosque" and "Police shot, killed 2 Palestinians" is the same as them reporting the ISIS execution as something like "American attacks Muslim with his throat"?

CNN did misreport it and it was obviously a very bad thing to happen but they won't make people understand/be empathetic by mocking pearl harbour, twin towers, hitler and ISIS murders.

They're not trying to.They're being snarky.
It's the internet.
Memes, you know?

They're not "mocking" those tragedies though, they're mocking what an abysmal job CNN has done of reporting this particular tragedy.

Well most of those are factually true. 8 Saudis actually did die in a double airplane crash. 12 Japanese pilots actually did die in Pearl Harbour. Which is the whole point.
Red Riding Hood and ISIS ones are lousy though.

I can understand why people are mad about the mix up and attack, but what I'm saying is that we have actual video coverage of ISIS killing a person right in front of a camera. There'd be a different emotional response if we had that with the synagogue attack, but the journalist one is pretty out in the open. We saw the guy die, but we didn't see the actual terror attack on the synagogue. There's a pretty big difference between hearing and seeing events take place.

Can you just be happy that Israelis have confirmed that it is now acceptable to make Hitler/holocaust jokes?

Just look at this, forget your differences and lol.
Why is everything a "meme"?
CNN did misreport it and it was obviously a very bad thing to happen but they won't make people understand/be empathetic by mocking pearl harbour, twin towers, hitler and ISIS murders.
Israeli's make satire and suddenly it's terrible.
[editline]3rd December 2014[/editline]
Why is everything a "meme"?
Because this unequivocally fits the definition of an internet meme?
But seeing some American recently executed by ISIS is a lot more controversial than those two events are right now because it happened not even a year ago.
Both of these are relatively recent-- and how controversial this is to you likely depending on where you live. Four Israeli deaths is likely a bigger deal in Israel than it is in the United States, and probably visa versa about the American executed by ISIS.
Either way, I feel as if the edits were a good way of explaining the outrage behind what's "just a headline". It's just kinda... insensitive.
Those Israelis can't even get the right L3 font!
Here is how you do it:
