Environmentalists May Take Over Hollywood Sign for Day

[release] The famous Hollywood sign is expected to be replaced by an environmental message — if only for a day.
Trust for Public Lands, a nature conservation group, says it has reached a deal to protect a swath of land above the sign from being developed into luxury homes, MyFoxLA.com reported.
And NBCLosAngeles.com reports that, to mark the deal, the group wants to cover up the sign for a day with a shroud reading: "Save the Peak."
The group is still waiting for permission from the city for the one-day sign change on Thursday, but the Los Angeles Police Department already has sent out an alert to neighborhood residents so they wouldn't be alarmed, NBCLosAngeles.com reports.
The president of Trust for Public Lands, Will Rogers, told MyFoxLA.com it secured an option to buy the 138-acre parcel for about $12 million from a Chicago-based firm. Rogers said the conservation group has already raised $6 million and is confident it can raise the rest of the money before the option expires in mid-April.
If the group succeeds, it intends to transfer the land to the city of Los Angeles, so it can be incorporated into the adjacent Griffith Park.[/release]
Oh Dear
Got this from faux news :foxnews:

who cares
Against luxury homes? Isn't that the main industry for Hollywood besides movies?
I enjoy the Hollywood sign being isolated the way it is, putting houses above it would ruin it for me.

Luxury homes for the people who are in movies cause they're the only ones that can afford a multi-million dollar house that has 400 bed rooms, 200 bathrooms, 32 swimming pools, 20 garages for all 40 cars they have, basketball courts, a helipad and a petting zoo all on their 50 acres lot.
I would rather have some landscape left rather then a eyesore of huge houses everywhere.

Nah, they don't need bathrooms they just use the pools.
Not even, they'll piss out their window on us common folk.
Hell, if I was rich enough to own a 50 acre property with a triple digit number of rooms in my house I could probably have enough money to just fucking buy the Hollywood sign and build my house in that.
this wood defentaly make sense as to their cause. Lot's of people look up there never figured it a way to send a message.
The houses would cover the sign almost.
Would it be ironic if they turned this into a movie?

This, basically. If there were houses around it, the sign would just blend it and not stand out like it should. :/

Not to mention all the richest celebrities would rush to buy a house above it for no reason other than so they can say: "Hey I live next to the Hollywood sign!"
Every one of them would live in a luxury home there if given the chance.

Why is this surprising?
