Goddamn, talk about scale. The last space sim I played was Freelancer like...a decade ago. Maybe I should give them another go after seeing this.
Most impressive.
Sins of a Solar Empire 2 please?
Fucking hell I want to know what wizardry they have pulled off in this mantle.
Oh man can you even imagine being a fighter pilot in a huge ass battle like that you would be under so much stress holy shit

"Sir our targeting systems are down!"
"WHO FUCKING CARES THERE'S SHIT EVERYWHERE JUST SHOOT"
Imagine if all of those were players with full control of their ship. Not Eve's style of control but full control similar to Freelancer. That would make for some epic fights if there was some organisation.

Wait does this mean
but Galactic Civilizations III is not using their Nitrous engine.
Awww. Well both look amazing either way, can't wait to see what fun games are made in this engine!
I'd be more impressed if the ships were different.
There have been plenty of other Engines that claimed to support infinite map size, many many objects etc, but all of the objects have been the same.

Stardock outsourced the work for the engine.
Stardock outsourced the work for the engine.
I was hoping for such large ships battles, and if stardock is funding/helping fund an engine I would assume they have some rights to use said engine. But they have been making GalCiv 3 longer than this engine has been in development and stardock already made a new engine for GalCiv 3 in house.
Lets be realistic you probably wouldn't have your "view distance" set that high to see all those ships.
I do hope they release this tech demo eventually. It looks like it would be fun to play around with and probably would be great press for them.
I'm glad Stardock is back on its feet again and going back to its roots with space sim games.
Start8 must of helped a great deal to get them out of that hole

Not having any geometry because it's a space game, instancing ship models and some good ol' level of detail on them i guess.
This makes me feel like a freak, but I REALLY like motion blur in games and the comments are full of people hating it
Source Engine 3 :v:

Stardock is publishing this, Oxide is developing. Stardock also published SoaSE but Ironclad developed it
edit:
oh turns out oxide was recently co-founded by the founder of stardock. So kind of a confusing relationship here :v:

Why would you want motion blur? If you're running at extremely high frame rates (which games do) there shouldn't be any blur. Blur is a thing from cinema because of the low frame rate
^ Something 48 fps movies are taking care of, meaning that high action movies will be more clear and well blurry.

I want motion blur in these games because I like motion blur.
I don't get why they call it the Nitrous engine when there's already a graphics engine by the same name that I believe Nvidia has made. (It's used as the viewport engine for 3Ds Max)
