Have you wondered what all the hype around Microsoft Windows 7 and DirectX 11 is all about? We will shed some light and answer some of those questions in this blog.
Let’s start with Windows7, everyone, including my own mother, is talking about this amazing operating system. Microsoft is rumoured to be launching the successor to Windows Vista in late October. What does it mean to you the PC user?
my fave part
Multithreaded Rendering is a feature which allows DirectX to be processed via multiple CPU threads. This means that a dual-, triple- or quad-core CPU can have a higher utilization across all cores than DirectX APIs in the past.
That's not a rumor, it's a fact.

I don't want this!
I don't want to get all swetty and I don't want to get a hard stroke while I play a game.
WOW SMOOTHER BUMPS AND SOME PRE-RENDERED FOOTAGE OF A GAME THATS GONNA LOOK THE SAME IN DX11 AS IT DOES IN DX9/10!!!
caps
We'll need a new Crysis
Devs are only just moving onto Dx10, no one is gonna use dx11 for ages..

I disagree. DX10 was nothing special, more of a gimmick to help promote Vista, which clearly failed. However, the overwhelming support for Windows 7 and the legitimate technology DX11 will bring suggests to me that developers will get on board very quickly.

I hope you're right!

Me too.
DX11 adds possibilities, if devs don't want, then they wont use. Simple as that. If they DO use, then that's the benefit of.. you. (if your card supports it..).
Some pics from Dirt 2 on DX11:

D11 and 7 are nothing special. All the big changes were made to Vista and 10.

That's just the bloom oozing out of it's arse.
Bloom hurts me.

Grand Turismo 5 can suck my balls.
Either it bad quality on the images, or they are using bloom to hide the fact that it doesn't look very good. Maybe they are off-screen and that's why they don't look very good (the last one looks good, but not the other ones), but the bloom is killing my eyes.

I wouldn't call it a successor, I would just call it a payed service pack.

Yeah. Geometry shaders are gimmicks.
The way DX10 was marketed was retarded, and they'll do the same with DX11. And then the cycle will repeat, "DX11 was such a gimmick! It makes all my games run WORSE!!"
So will Nvidia take use of DX11 or is it just exclusively for the ati cards?
a bit confused here

My friend messed about with the config files on GRID for PC and turned off HDR. It looks awful without it :v:

Of course they will, they just haven't made their DX11 cards yet.

Also the fact that DX11 makes physX obsolete (not that it was ever used apart from in mirrors edge).
And batman and darkest days. Wow thats a lot of gammes!!!
No it is now Devs have a common ground on what to unify the physx support usually it is the cpu and some games could use Phyx but most didn't bother. Now that everyone can develop with GPGPU phyx can become a standard and not a "if we have room in out budget to do so"
