Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Monday that he will not evacuate Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
"We are here to stay, forever," the prime minister said at an event in the settlement of Barkan, commemorating the 50th anniversary of Israel's occupation of the West Bank.
"There will be no more uprooting of settlements in the land of Israel. It has been proven that it does not help peace," he said. "We've uprooted settlements. What did we get? We received missiles. It will not happen anymore.
The prime minister has made similar pledges in the past. “I have no intention of evacuating any settlement or uprooting any Israeli,” he said in a January 2014 briefing for Israeli reporters between his meetings with then-U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Davos, Switzerland. “The days of bulldozers uprooting Jews are behind us, not ahead of us,” he said in an interview with the Maariv daily in January 2013.
Settlements are one of the core issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The issue reached headlines only last week, as part of U.S. attempts to restart the peace process, when Donald Trump's senior adviser Jared Kushner met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
I don't think Bibi cares about peace
Nothing new here, he's been saying this for years, he never cared.
This will just push the palestinians to more extremism and terrorism, but I guess that's what Netanyahu wants to accomplish in order to justify even more settlements.
Long live the thousand year Israeli Reich
I can see the security argument; settlement zones work effectively as buffers to Palestinian rocket attacks, who's ineffectiveness (up until the Iron Dome was put into place) was largely thanks to their inaccuracy. Netanyahu also isn't wrong when he says that that the response from the uprooted settlements has been more rocket attacks.
On the other hand, Israeli settlements jeopardize the only real long-term solution to peace in the region which is the two-state solution (atleast imo), and I find the arguments by Israel that it wouldn't be "viable" to uproot Israeli's living in these settlements to be the height of hypocrisy.
Apartheid fucks.

um wouldn't settling closer and closer to the hamas space program make security even worse not better since the missiles start to hit people, and israel can use that to justify more armed conflict
Hey guys
We hate to see palestinians start going apeshit and see fanatism brewing over there
soooo
We took some smart decisions.
We're not letting you evict our settlers. :v

I don't disagree, which is why I said it jeopardizes the two-state solution.

There are no settlements in the Hamas controlled Gaza strips. Only in the West Bank. Which isn't firing rockets into Israel, which does away with the whole "buffer zone against rockets" argument.
Anyway, context: Netanyahu is facing several very serious corruption investigations, and at least one high ranking official has turned state witness.
He's in such a panic he's setting up support rallies to himself so party members can pretend they support him.
He actually spent about half of his very long speech in the last support rally badmouthing one specific dude who was employed by him and won a lawsuit against him and now leads daily demonstrations calling the attorney general to stop delaying and press charges against Netanyahu already.
So of course Netanyahu is rallying the troops with the usual talking points: the left wing is evil, the media is evil, settlements are awesome etc.
I don't know hoe anybody could support this apartheid state.
Imagine getting your land taken away and then everybody become surprised and upset when an large amount of your population is hostile against the invading force.

Sounds exactly like Trump. Really, the similarities are remarkable. He's even using the "fake news" catchphrase now.
