MIDDLE Eastern media is reporting the leader of the Islamic State, self-proclaimed Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has been critically wounded in an air strike. The Al Arabiya news channel is reporting sources have told it that the Caliph was “critically wounded” during an air attack in the Iraqi town of al-Qaim. US officials have stated a convoy of up to 10 armed Islamic State vehicles, believed to be carrying Islamic State commanders, was hit yesterday Australian time.
http://www.news.com.au/world/claims-isis-caliph-albaghdadi-critically-injured-in-us-air-strike/story-fndir2ev-1227117280938

IIRC this is a very, very unconfirmed reports. Some saying he was injured others saying he wasn't in the convoy. Granted the one claiming it was in the convoy is currently from the ISIS held Anbar Province.
Who will succeed him?
This would be a pretty big blow to ISIL. Baghdadi's been around for awhile and has a lot of "experience" for lack of a better word. He's been around for quite some time as the general in both al-Sham and Iraq. No doubt he'll be replaced, but this would be great news if true.
Who will succeed him?
The sound of a thousand Bald Eagle screeches. By Bald Eagle I mean missile. By screeches I mean strikes.
al-bagdaddy
Another will take his place. Like a cockroach.
Another will take his place. Like a cockroach.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any sort of bug bomb outside of radiation that works on cockroaches like them.
al-bagdaddy
Every time I see his name, I automatically think of some sort of middle eastern pimp running ISIS.
rekt
I find more interesting the 'rest of the news' ... which mentions attack on convoy of 10 vehicles where were other commanders this could mean quite some of the IS leadership is wounded or dead ...
Sadly, I'm not aware of any sort of bug bomb outside of radiation that works on cockroaches like them.
Education and reconstruction. These people only go away when you build a country where they won't flourish. But that's unfortunately harder than just aiming AtG missiles at them when they do.
Education and reconstruction. These people only go away when you build a country where they won't flourish.
Very true, but where it stands right now, we first need to chase them out, and educate the populace, while keeping a government that isn't braindead set on causing conflicts via religious sects.
I guess we'll have to wait on any real confirmation. This could be a big deal. Al Qaeda and the Taliban are good at dealing with leadership "turnover" (ha), but I dunno how much of ISIS' success can be directly attributed to al-Baghdadi. They could very well end up fracturing if nobody else is capable of holding the organization together. Let's hope so.

Hopefully. There are plenty of people in ISIS who came from AQI and are used to dealing with leadership turnover. Depends on whether the report is at all accurate. If he's only wounded it'll just further bolster his cred with the other extremists.
Probably every random Joe will rise up and claim they're descended from the Prophet by their Great-Uncles roommate or some shit.
I'm directly descended from the Prophet, as far as you know. :yarr:

There was a ton of ready supporters to take over after Zarqawi's (former AQI leader prior to ISI creation) death. In fact, it happened in about five months. It's hard to compare to because Baghdadi took charge of a new creation that was the result of AQI, and not AQI itself, very rapidly. However, it's probable that the Vice-Emir would step up to the plate. And if not, someone else will.

Or was Zarqawi never technically a Caliph?

I was thinking that an Emir could be a Caliph, which is why I was confused. As you can tell, I'm clearly not THAT knowledgeable on Middle Eastern leadership and structure :v:

I hope he dies.
Too bad he's not al-Baghdeady yet
If Crusader Kings II has told me anything, the caliphate is fucked while the pretenders wage their decadence wars. ISIS is over guys! Time to go home.
al-bagdeadi
