• Just Cause 2 rending on wrong graphics card

Firstly, I wasnt sure if this should go in the games thread or here, i decided to put it hee since i think its more or a Hardware/software issue than the game itself. Well I have this problem with just cause 2 (which i recently bought on steam) where it renders on my secondary 8500GT instead of my 6970. I did see a fix when i would add the command line /dxadapter=0, that didnt work so i tried -dxadapter=0, again didnt work. Thar fix worked for everyone else, but it just isnt for me. Does anyone have any idea what i could do to fix this, other than disabling the 8500GT, then re-enabling after the game starts. sorry about spelling error in Title *Rendering
dxadapter=1 maybe? must try to get this to work on my 8600 instead of my 6870 now. [editline]21st December 2011[/editline] Also technical support would be the right place for this.
Remove the 8500GT. It's most likely just bottlenecking everything else anyway.
Remove the 8500GT. It's most likely just bottlenecking everything else anyway.
He's probably using it for PhysX
He's probably using it for PhysX
I've heard that having a dedicated PhysX card isn't all that it's cracked up to be. [editline]21st December 2011[/editline] Not sure if that's the case though, so just ignore that I said that.
He is probably using it because he has two VGA monitors but only one DVI connector outputs a VGA signal like my card. At least that's why I use my 8600GT with my 6870, but I do get to take it out at the and of the week as I am getting a new monitor. Back on topic: I have the same problem when I tried to play just cause 2 with no luck setting any of this through launch options I have tried all op has and with 1 and 2 with no luck.
Why do you guys care so much about what he's using it for?
Why do you guys care so much about what he's using it for?
It's the only fix that we know of to resolve this problem and want to know if he really needs the card in there? Or we like to know everything about a persons setup.
You can't even use the 8500GT for physics rendering unless it's paired with another nvidia card. As it stands it's currently doing fuck all except draining your power so remove it.
There should be a screen where you can choose the GFX card, this is with most games. Anyhow, this is a better question for the Steam support, you can try contacting them there. If all else fails you can try putting the /dxadapter on the actual EXE instead of looping it through Steam. It should be under your Steamapps.

It's not being "looped through steam", it's passing the parameters on as any shell would.
Why do you guys care so much about what he's using it for?
Because an easy fix would be to remove it.
im guessing it has something to do with Just Cause 2's GPU water rendering.
im guessing it has something to do with Just Cause 2's GPU water rendering.
Yeah, but that's CUDA and not PhysX. I'm not even sure it works that way.
Yeah, but that's CUDA and not PhysX. I'm not even sure it works that way.
just a guess, makes sense to me. why does it matter if it's CUDA and not PhysX?
I tried the dxadaptor=1, again didnt work. The reason i have the 8500GT in there is, as raceingdemon said. i have more than two monitors running from my computer. Yes i know the 6970 can support upto 6 monitors, i just cant find ANYWHERE to get the adaptors near where i live

You should be able to pick up DVI-VGA adaptors at any decent Dick Smither or Jaycar, hell you may even have Radio Shack where you are. If you're in a capital city you should be able to find them at the sunday markets or at any small computer store.

I have looked everywhere, even went looking today, Dicsmith, Austin comptuers, netplus, MSY, PLE, Centurion. No one has them. Its like they dont exist here. The only options is ordering online When i asked at dick smith they had no idea what i was talking about. I did manage to find one, but its from the apple store, and insanely overpriced
