ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Many high school seniors will tell you their social lives are pretty full, but that's an understatement for 19-year-old Grant Hutcheson. Hutcheson is a senior at Maysville High School. The college bound teen has plenty of friends, loves sports and is an all-around passionate person. He's also a member of the Zanesville city council. "A lot of people laughed at me. You know what? That just gave me fuel, to be honest with you. It made me happy because I'm a kid but I was going to prove people wrong," said Hutcheson. And that he did on November 3, 2009. "Not only did I win, I'm not going to say I kicked his..., but I won by the largest margin out of all nine races," said Hutcheson. That's City Councilman Hutcheson to you. "It is unique, he's 19 and he's now a city councilman in a pretty large city, Zanesville, Ohio," said Principal of Maysville High School James Retton. Principal Retton has been in education for about 20 years, and says he's never seen a student take civics so literally, "this is the first time we've ever had one of our students win a public office in an open election." "If I don't do enough for you, don't re-elect me. It's as simple as that. Just give me a chance and we'll see where I can take you in two years," said Hutcheson. He beat out an incumbent more than twice his age, and says his dad played a role, as he too, once served. But more than that, Hutcheson believes this is his calling. "I knew I was going to get elected, it was just a matter of when. You always want to be positive," said Hutcheson. Hutcheson told ONN's Stephanie Mennecke that he plans to attend college, but it will be local. He needs to stay within city limits for his two year term. Hutcheson says school is a priority, and he'll manage his time just like any other councilman does with their full-time job.
Source: http://www.onntv.com/live/content/onnnews/stories/2010/01/12/011210_Teen_Councilman.html?sid=102 This guy is going to go far in life. :patriot:

ONN, Ohio News Network, I thought at first it was the Onion.
Well, this goes to show any teenager can do amazing things. You could leave home at the age of 16 and sail around the world for a year, or be accepted into Cambridge at the age of 14 or, like this fellow, be elected into a government position.
What happened to being a "normal" kid nowadays?
