This was only a quick toss-together of parts on a small budget for my boyfriend. ($600 limit)
His laptop he uses currently is slowly choking to death. He really needs a new computer.
He'd basically just use it for playing some source games like Gmod and TF2, and the occasional MMO. Nothing too intensive but he wants at least over 60 FPS.
We're in the US and I was just slapping things together from newegg and since I don't know much about hardware really, so this is why I come here for help. I don't know if all these parts will work together or am I just making the final price bigger unnecessarily.
I have no idea what I'm doing with all these parts. (I'll pick out RAM later, that'd be the easy part at least)
And with that, here's the stuff + links to them.

I know I'm getting a cheapy keyboard but he doesn't need a big gaming keyboard nor something superuberpowerful hardware wise. And he already has a USB mouse he's using for the laptop.
Halp?
Also, don't use big words with me, I'm not very smart with hardware, as I've stated...

Same PSU as before, and you don't need an aftermarket CPU cooler, if you're not overclocking.

You really love the 4830, lol.
You really love the 4830, lol.
It's really good for this budget, and it's a solid card. As superduperscoot listed the GPU 51.99, I guess that's the budget for the GPU.
I also got one my self.
for that price the 4830 is amazing
Don't you mean 4830?
yes, I do
Alright, that looks pretty nice. Thank you.
Also, I have a prebuilt (yuck, I'm not using one under my own desire)

And I was wondering, how much juice could I squeeze out of this in case I wanted an actual GPU instead of the integrated chipset it has?
300w PSU, not very much.
In other words, what would fit snugly in my computer without choking my PSU by asking for too much?
the 5450 isn't on board, I'm pretty sure.
I keep getting told it is.
I'd open the case and see for myself but I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE FRIGGEN THING OPEN
Well, you're going to have to open it to upgrade it, so you might as well figure it out. It appears to open on the opposite side than what's normal, you should just have to pull it back, or unscrew some screws then pull it back.
I think that you're going to need to upgrade your PSU. I wouldn't even think all that would run on a 300W PSU anyways.

For the op build, I don't quite think a PSU of that price is necessary.
[editline]10th December 2010[/editline]
And you have 2 PSUs in OP. The case comes with one as well.
[editline]10th December 2010[/editline]
Just get this for OP build http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.567610 and get a 4830 for yourself, and some at least 450 watt PSU for yourself.
