• Computer not detecting microphone.

Recently, when I try and use vent, I am presented with this message:
Failed to open input device. Another program might have it open already. rc = -10
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But so far it hasn't been working at all. I tried plugging my microphone into the front jack and the back jack to no avail. It is not a USB microphone. I tried updating my sound drivers, and that didn't do anything either. I don't know what other program could be using it, either.
Right click on the speaker icon, then chose recording devices. Try disabling any of them and see if it will work. Edit: Seems like I misread you problem, but here's one I found on another forum. "Go into setup in Vent and change the input mixer to specifically reference your microphone, not the 'Default device'."
Okay, I managed to set my sound settings up so I can talk into my mic and hear the sound through my speakers, so I know my mic works fine. I tried changing the settings in vent several times, and no settings seem to work. However, after changing the hardware input mixer and input device, I am now prompted with this error:
Failed to open input device. Another program might have it open already. rc = -1
I should also mention I am using Windows XP SP2.
Q: Unable to initialize the codec. CODE = -10 -10 means the codec is found but is marked as disabled. Control panel Sound and multimedia Hardware Double click "Audio Codec" Double click on Microsoft GSM 6.10 Click on "Use this audio codec" Press OK.
I think this should work. [editline]12:44AM[/editline] Better if you changed back to the same input device as you had earlier.
That didn't work. D:
Try updating to service pack 3, could fix problem
