Grant Gustin, who plays Sebastian Smythe on hit musical TV show Glee, says his character’s desire to break up the show’s young gay couple earned him death threats from fans. Main character Kurt Hummel, played by Chris Colfer, had found love with Blaine Anderson, played by Darren Criss, when he transferred to his school’s choral rival, Dalton Academy. But clouds gathered following the arrival of Sebastian, portrayed by Grant Gustin, who set his sights on Kurt’s new boyfriend. Guston, 22, said at the time his character was “after Blaine, obviously, and he’s also trying to take the place that Blaine had as the leader of the Warblers [his school's show choir].” The two halves of Glee’s only on-screen gay couple, excruciatingly referred to in some quarters as ‘Klaine’, were going to be shown not just to be “together because they’re the only two gay characters”. Now, in an interview with E!, Gustin says: “At first, first people were like, ‘Oh this guy’s cool, we like him, blah blah blah’. Then they found out what the character was going to be. “And then all these pictures started coming out of, like, Darren Criss and Chris Colfer with my headshot in the middle.” He continues: “Right off the bat, before people had even seen an episode – I don’t know, I never took these too seriously – literally death threats on Twitter, saying ‘If you break up Klaine, I will find you and I will kill you’.” Gustin laughed off the threats and went on to praise the “intensity” of Glee fans in general. The show is gearing up to feature another gay couple, with Jeff Goldblum set to pair up with Brian Stokes Mitchell as they play character Rachel Berry’s parents. The Jurassic Park actor and Broadway star Stokes will sing a duet together during their début in a special Valentines Day episode called ‘Heart.’
Shouldn't the letters go to the writers? They're the ones who are making the character try to break up the gay couple. Source

I'm not sure if I read this correctly. An actor is receiving death threats over something they did while acting? [editline]1st February 2012[/editline] Oh I see. What he did was part of the show. I couldn't wrap my head around the stupid in this.
Funny, in the Arkham City comic tie-in the Joker confirmed he watched Glee. And he says some homoerotic lines in the game...
Some people are just so sad the way they think characters on tv are real. Besides, everyone knows Kurt and Blaine are just perfect for each other, Sebastian may be all that but Kurt knows how to hang onto his man.
This happens with many drama/soap shows, not just Glee. People seem to think that actors embody the personalities/beliefs/choices of the characters they portray
Glee is dumb. And you spelled receiving wrong.
Shippers are the scum of the earth
Clearly, some viewers don't know that it's a fictional TV show. I want Glee with a bunch of my friends, all of the are girls :quagmire: And I like the show, just not so much the people who send threats like this.
dear daniel radcliffe please bring back dumbledore and add in a part in the last book with a love scene bewteen serius and snape. if you fail to meet my demands within the week i will dismebeber you hands one finger a day until my demands are met thank you!!!!! ~a dear fan
I suspect that the largest percentage of death threats are coming from middle aged, white women.
dear Glee writers Please stop taking good songs and "remixing" them and turning them to shit thank you, ~someone who has a taste in music somewhat relevant
Well, general in television or movie some type of theme is being expressed and a message said. Not all, but most. That being said maybe the fans are angry because of what it represents, did the character break them up fro the wrong reason? Out of hate? Because the character is a bigot? Yes it is stupid to threaten the actor, maybe write a a constructive letter to the producer or executive of the channel. Death-threats are not needed.

Reminds me of something that happened to Natalie Schafer, the actress who played Mrs. Howell on Gilligan's Island. Every time she said her husband was dead, whoever she was talking to would go wide-eyed and say "THURSTON HOWELL IS DEAD?!" Kind of sad, really.

They asked Bjork to be on Glee once. She said "thanks but no thanks".
They asked Bjork to be on Glee once. She said "thanks but no thanks".
Damon Albarn wouldn't let them do any of his stuff either I think.
what is your obsession with bjork
what is your obsession with bad posting. hehheh but uh it's the most relevant thing i really had to say, besides Glee viewers are dumb or something.
I wish this type of stupidity didn't exist. Actor receives death threats for something his character does. Pathetic.
I wish this type of stupidity didn't exist. Actor receives death threats for something his character does. Pathetic.
At least the actor is taking it well, and what are the odds of one of these letters being more than an empty threat?
Shippers are the scum of the earth
Excuse you! Not that I ship Klaine I mean it is an ok ship, but Brittana ftw though. and then my OTP which has nothing to do with this Larry Stylinson.
I only hate shipping when two or more ships conflict with each other.
Glee is an absolutely terrible TV show I can't even watch it in a 'oh wow haha humanity is fucked sense' like I do Jersey Shore it's just so fucking terrible god damn faux-liberal fucking bullshit
it's just so not cynical and just so not ironic. i have to watch 2 hours of Daria just to recover.
it's just so not cynical and just so not ironic. i have to watch 2 hours of Daria just to recover.
I sure do love being bored to death.
I don't like how it seems to keep pressing the issue of homosexuality.
I don't like how it seems to keep pressing the issue of homosexuality.
How so? The death threats are because the actor's character is interfering with a ship. The fact that it's a gay couple seems irrelevant.
