Is the entire Mass Effect trilogy for $5 worth it to someone who knows next to nothing about the games except the controversy surrounding them?

The first game is worth 5$ imo. Getting all three for that low is a steal

I got bored by me2 but for 5$ the worst thing that could happen is you have 15$ worth of fun, so if the game is way not your style, even then it's still pretty worth it. 5$ is a serious steal
I can't really be bothered to try Mass Effect simply because the art direction is just so boring and generic looking.

it seemed to be a pretty interesting world to me but the characters and acting, which is a large part of it, felt mundane to me
it's a unique universe ruined by mediocre writing and dull voice acting
this is totally subjective though and entirely the story portion that I'm judging as a note. I've only played #2.
I totally agree. The rich and diverse lore set up in ME1 was slowly eroded with each game into a generic and boring science fantasy adventure written for idiots.
Most of the videos I see of me3 has laughably awful voice acting and blank slates for characters
for a game which has a main point of character interaction it sure has some cringeworthy acting in it
though, it's unfair to only judge based on plot for a game that's half plot half combat.
Just tried to get the trilogy. I don't know if sony's servers are having issues, but I keep getting logged out when I go to the checkout area.
could I gift 1 and 2 and keep 3 for my self.?

No. I don't think you can even gift games at all on PSN.
do not buy me3 for the ps, it's a completely shit port.

Games are bundled. You either get them all, or none at all.
The Mass Effect series is fantastic
sure, the ending to the series is worse than the ending to LOST, but the series overall is a work of art

Don't judge by videos, from start to finish I was completely engrossed in the world they created and there were so many moments that had great emotional impact. Take Tali, Ashley or Garrus, they're characters that progress through an arc from 1 to 3 and their voice acting never prevents you from feeling something.
Plus 3's combat is the best of the lot, it just feels right, you never make a move and feel like the game misread your intentions and the shooting feels smooth and solid.

Sucks I haven't found time to play it yet, but I did manage to snag the trilogy while it was on sale. Now I just need to find a good off day to binge.
