Microsoft has just unveiled a new look and feel to its corporate logo. Following 25 years from its former iteration, this is the first major Microsoft logo change in the company's history. The new logo includes a multicolored symbol that's typically found on the company's Windows products — the first time the wordmark has been accompanied by an image. Speaking to The Seattle Times, Microsoft's Jeff Hansen reveals that the new logo is designed to "signal the heritage but also signal the future — a newness and freshness."
Microsoft is preparing to launch a range of products this holiday season, including its Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 operating systems and a new Surface tablet. The software giant's new logo reflects a change in the company's branding that has been triggered by the new look Windows 8 interface and branding. Microsoft's Office team has also adopted a similar interface and style, and Windows Phone 8 completes the trio of products for Microsoft's major rebrand this fall.
The new logo will take time to filter across the company's products, Hansen says "there may be other instances where you will see the old logo being used for some time." Overall the new symbol is "important in a world of digital motion" says Hansen, one that the company is "excited about" using.
I like it
Are you shitting me.
Minimal and lack of any standout features.
The future!
I like the music
Honestly it is not that bad, but it could be better.

The past as well.

minimalism is better tbh
I cringe when I see 3D logos or menus that try to add 3D effects, so ugly and pointless
I like it, I like my PC neat and tidy. This is and metro are fine by me.
Microsoft and their fetisch for squares.
But I got to admit it looks pretty tits

I wish this kind of theme would stop ruining the future.
Did they seriously just show Xbox as one of their awesome parts?
What
I understand what they're going for but it just feels so lifeless and so horribly undistinguished if that makes any sense at all.
That is such a minimalistic boring logo that Google used it back in 08 for one of their scrapped projects I can't remember the damn name to.
In short I think it looks terrible.
Problem is that the Metro design language is a passing thing. And so as this logo.

better than when companies think they are in some sci-fi anime
case in point:

people complained about changes like these because they don't get how silly these look in real life, like how so many of the same nerds don't get that wearing a fedora in real life does not look good
in other words get some taste, other companies are doing it too
I couldn't give a fuck how the logo looks. It's almost as if every person reading these articles is a graphics design critic.
I like it.
It's simple, clean, modern and still keeps the same image everyone knows.

Couldn't agree more.
non-flat, 3D logos are the alienware of logos, ugly and looks like something from a sci-fi cartoon made for preteeens
I frankly don't give a shit but from a design perspective it's very nondescript.

I think that is ugly

Wonder what it would look like if someone combined the new block logo with the old text logo...
Gotta try this.

Oh god this looks so uncanny to me.

I think the new logo looks fine.

I'd imagine you would, since your avatar seems to suggest you like simple and modern over 3D, gloss, and michael bayism (don't take the last part too seriously)
Their UI is similar too, I really hate the glossy effect they put on everything.
OSX's UI uses gradients and solid colors. Unless you're speaking of icons.

Yeah I think even Apple is moving towards the flatter modern look, look at the Apple logos on the iPhones, they aren't all 3D

Do you think OS X still looks like this?

I am pretty sure that is some ancient version of OSX
