Sir Ivan Rogers predicted much of the talks would be "conducted very publicly" with "name-calling" and an "extremely feisty atmosphere". He added that EU Commission chiefs were saying the UK should pay 40-60bn euros to leave and thought a trade deal could take until the mid-2020s to agree. Sir Ivan, who had been due to leave his post in October, resigned last month. In December he attracted criticism from some MPs when his warning to ministers that the European consensus was that a deal might not be done until the early to mid-2020s was revealed by the BBC. Giving evidence to the Commons European Scrutiny Committee, he said this had come from a briefing he had written for Prime Minister Theresa May in October, based on the views of key figures in the EU and the remaining member states. He said he did not know how it became public. The government says it can conclude all separation negotiations, including a new free trade deal, within two years, having given notice of the UK's departure from the EU by the end of March.
just pull the fucking trigger on me already
George Osborne said similar in the Commons today.
Is it too late to just not fuck everything up? I feel like it shouldn't be.
Is it too late to just not fuck everything up? I feel like it shouldn't be.
There was a debate yesterday (and ongoing now, today) on whether the bill granting the PM the power to invoke Article 50 should be passed. The vote will be held this evening. It would take there to be a rebellion in the Tories, as well as those who have declared their opposition on the other side, to vote against it - which I think is very unlikely. So far from the debates, it seems like the SNP and Lib Dems are voting against it, as well as a handful of Labour and Tories.
why doesn't the queen veto brexit? is she afraid the people will set her house on fire or something?
why doesn't the queen veto brexit? is she afraid the people will set her house on fire or something?
They basically would. The Queen actually trying to exercise any of her pretend power in any circumstance would end in her being dogpiled by politicians if not removed from her position completely, but the Queen intervening on a popular vote would be even worse. Many people are vehemently against even our own politicians intervening and that much was in the terms of the referendum from day one. I don't think people would take well to a surprise veto from the Queen.
We are already 60 billion in deficit. Tories: "lets fucking double it"
why the fuck should we pay to leave

Lager and Greggs!" - Knock-off Nigel
theoretically as a net-giver to the EU we should have made money off of leaving, not saying they were correct though when determining the wider financial effects. it's fucking ridiculous we should be forced to pay money to the EU to leave though. they say nothing about it in article 50. it's almost like a damn protection racket.
