A century later, the temper of Princeton students may have kicked Wilson off campus for good. On Thursday evening, Princeton's President Christopher Eisgruber agreed to a list of demands put forth by student activists who took over his office for 32 hours. Chief among their demands was the removal of the former US President's name from campus, including renaming the renowned Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and removing the former president's portrait from public spaces. Eisgruber had initially refused to get rid of Wilson's name but reversed tack last night and agreed to "initiate the process to consider removal" of Wilson's name.

Students at Princeton also backed down on demands that the reforms be implemented immediately after the administration threatened them with disciplinary action for occupying the president's office. They were offered an amnesty if they agreed to vacate the room last night.
Seems like America is gonna have to rename everything. Washington DC, Washington State, Hitler Heights, Jefferson City. I can sympathize more with this call but still seems to be an overreaction.
Can you imagine actually caring about shit like this How fucking boring is your life for you to actually give a fuck about the name of a university
attacking the things that actually promote and cause racism would take effort
Women gained the right to vote nationwide during his presidency
Erasing the past, and anything that doesn't agree with the present model of opinion Where have I heard this before Oh right, in 1984
He was a prominent progressive, but yeah he said racist things because during that time it was a universal belief that blacks are not as intelligent as whites. Everyone was a racist back then. Lincoln believed whites and blacks were separate species, it was Charles Darwin who figured out that everyone is the same species. Purge away references to Martin Luther King Jr. then, because he didn't support gay rights in a modern context and thought homosexuality was a psychiatric problem. I said this in the other thread about Yale and Calhoun College, I'll say it here again: this is proof of how decadent our society has become. When political correctness and social justice go this far, excessively stretching bad arguments over minor things to fit some vague agenda, you know there's a problem with people's priorities and that they're not enduring true hardship like they pretend to be. This self-inflating egotism needs to stop, and there needs to be pushback against this kind of behavior. These people are not accomplishing anything, and they don't even seem interested in accomplishing anything; they want to look important and make themselves feel important, but they don't want to actually do any hard work to address actual, serious issues in the real world. Wilson was a decent president and was vital to forming our Constitution's 17th and 19th Amendments, supported immigration rights with the Immigration Act, tried to keep us out of the Great War, worked to enact child labor and general labor laws, pushed for income taxes to be raised against the wealthy... he deserves to be remembered-- at Princeton and at a higher level nationally. Also, he actually wasn't as racist as these people are claiming. Yeah he discouraged blacks from applying to Princeton, but that was only because the school was already heavily segregated, and he understood the importance of keeping the peace in the context of the early-1900s (a time when of course segregation was a thing). He disliked the Ku Klux Klan (although he understood that, in a historical context, they were a natural phenomenon born out of the Civil War and Reconstruction's lawless elements), and again was actually very pro-immigrant. He allowed blacks in the military and ensured they were given equal pay. Yes, he was still a racist and believed in the idea of "separate but equal", but he was actually a very moderate man in his views for the time. And that is one more thing which we should remember him for. What a bunch of bullshit.
Can you imagine actually caring about shit like this How fucking boring is your life for you to actually give a fuck about the name of a university
Imagine how cushy and easy your life must be to consider this a problem.
Makes you wonder how they'd react to the fact that most of the suffragettes were racist white women.
Really not looking forward to college
Makes you wonder how they'd react to the fact that most of the suffragettes were racist white women.
I don't know any of these protesters personally but I think that fact is common knowledge. I learned it in high school, at any rate.
If they cave in, the leaders of the establishment should fuck off. Just ignore these brats, or even show them how stupid they are, please.
Really not looking forward to college
Dont worry, in the end of the day, these people are tiny minorities the problem is that they are very vocal minorities
attacking the things that actually promote and cause racism would take effort
It is curious that these particular activists have not engaged in the same behavior at the Stormfront home offices, nor say notoriously racist enclave like Basking Ridge or the Shore. But no, they made their stand in an office where they were allowed to stay at the behest of the person they had a problem with.
wasn't as racist as these people are claiming
He was more racist than these people are claiming, he was a classist and proto-libertarian.
Dont worry, in the end of the day, these people are tiny minorities the problem is that they are very vocal minorities
Yeah don't you hate minorities?
Yeah don't you hate minorities?
Wow that awkwardly came out of nowhere.
Yeah don't you hate minorities?
Nope, just idiots. Just so happens that these idiots are in a minority.
Really not looking forward to college
I've been in college for the last 2 years and I've never encountered anything like these peoplee
I've been in college for the last 2 years and I've never encountered anything like these peoplee
If you're in Canada, then that's expected you don't. This is mostly a US privileged daddy paid for my college student thing.
It is more common in universities, yeah
Guys, we should remove all signs of honoring Martin Luthor King Jr. He was homophobic, therefore we should rename things named after him. Fuck his "I Had a Dream" speech, right?
Women gained the right to vote nationwide during his presidency
And caused the death of over 100,000 Americans by dragging the nation into a world war.
And caused the death of over 100,000 Americans by dragging the nation into a world war.
Woodrow Wilson single-handedly dragged the US into WWI without public support? Despite the public largely being against going to war the preceding three years, he just did it on a whim one day? Amazing. Who knows how long the war could've dragged on without US support.
If I'm not mistaken, the US did have reasons to get involved. The sinking of the Lusitania and the "Zimmerman Letter" which detailed the possibility of Mexico fighting the US to keep them out of Europe. I may have missed some details, I'm going off of a history unit from school many years ago.

Mexico declined for fairly obvious reasons, but the fact that Germany had asked another country to attack us was enough. The Luisitania itself (not the larger German policy on unrestricted Submarine Warfare) became more of a public scapegoat reason than anything because as it turns out it was carrying arms and ammunition, much like Germany had been saying for many many years. It was a valid military target being shielded by Civilians.

As a great history teacher of mine once said, "Rich man's war, poor man's fight."
Pretty sure the Zimmerman telegram was a fake.
Pretty sure the Zimmerman telegram was a fake.
Lmao who told you that?
They might be a vocal minority but the trail of damage they leave behind is impressive.
Changing the name of place because it's namesake was racist as fuck hardly seems that damaging.
Lmao who told you that?
White imperialists make up shit to go to war
