The band were due to appear at the event on June 4 and 5 at Nijmegen, Netherlands. But following frontman Anselmo’s “white power” outburst last week, the vocalist has been told he and his band are “no longer welcome” at the gathering. FortaRock organisers say in a statement: “After the recent outbursts by singer Phil Anselmo during the Dimebash event in the US, his band Down is no longer welcome at FortaRock. “There has been close consultation between all parties in recent days since we wanted to make a well-informed decision. On that basis, the decision is made to cancel the act. "We want to make clear that there is no room for racism or fascism at FortaRock.” Anselmo’s actions were slammed by Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn and others from the music world, leading the former Pantera man to issue an apology in which he begged to be given “another chance.” Anselmo initially refused to say sorry and insisted he was making an in-joke about drinking white wine backstage.

--- After the recent outbursts by singer Phil Anselmo during the Dimebash event in the US, his band Down is no longer welcome at FortaRock. I was at the Dimebash and it was extremely late at night. There was heavy duty talk between myself and those who love Dime. Heavy emotions were flowing. Jokes were made backstage that transpired upon the stage and it was ugly, it was uncalled for and anyone who knows me and my true nature knows that I don't believe any of that. I don't want to be part of any group. I'm an individual and I am 1000% apologetic to anyone to took offense to what I said, because you should've taken offense to what I said, and I am so sorry. And I hope you just…man…give me another chance…to…just give me another chance. Just give me another chance. I love all of you. And anyone who's met me knows, I love of all of you. Bless you.
Do you have a quote for what he said or was it a bunch of shit on the stage? He's never struck me as someone to be interested in the white power movement.

There was also an instance where they posted a picture of a black guy in a pantera shirt on their facebook page as a joke because black people could never be into metal.
Good, racism has no place in civilized society
Good, racism has no place in civilized society
The guy apologised. Not sure what else he can do really.
The guy apologised. Not sure what else he can do really.
Apparently He was Drunk...so not get Drunk on tour?
According to him it was an inside joke and he was drunk. But even when drunk, why would you reference an inside joke in that manner knowing full well people would hate you for it. The guy battled against drugs and alcoholism for years and actually set an example of how you could pull through the absolute worst scenarios and come out on top with a band like Down. But old habits die hard even for Phil I guess.
I've actually talked with the dude before and he never struck as racist. Yeah he's had questionable outbursts in the past while drunk or high. He's even written songs criticizing racisism. People that know him know he shouldn't have to apologize.

Grow some balls, he made joke he's not a racist. He shouldn't have apologized for this. i read somewhere that it had something to do with the fact that they were drinking or serving white wine at the show.
Good, racism has no place in civilized society
Nobody would give a damn if an artist said black power. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] You can say racist jokes and not be racist
even if he was a white supremacist, down should still be able to play their music isn't blatant hate speech, and he made one gesture at one show and apologized (albeit poorly) shortly afterwards why should a band that many people enjoy be banned from a festival over such a small display of racism? there's no reason to believe they would cause problems at the festival, so what is the purpose? is it for brownie points?
Good, racism has no place in civilized society
"I'm the most nonracist person there is!"
Nobody would give a damn if an artist said black power. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] You can say racist jokes and not be racist
Probably because White Power is racist slang and Black Power isn't. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] Also according to FortaRock he did a Nazi salute and yelled "White Power". He almost definitely isn't a white supremacist but you should also not heil Hitler and shout white power if you want to be invited to music festivals in Denmark of all places.
i read somewhere that it had something to do with the fact that they were drinking or serving white wine at the show.
the dude from Machinehead who was backstage with him said there wasn't any white wine in sight. i can accept that he was just drunk but in no way are people out of line for taking offense at what he said [editline]4th February 2016[/editline]
Grow some balls, he made joke he's not a racist. He shouldn't have apologized for this.
he shouldn't have apologized for getting loaded and saying something retarded? like dude i really don't care that he said something racist in specific, but when you get drunk and your inhibitions are down and you say some stupid things you otherwise wouldn't say, it's simple courtesy to apologize after. doesn't change shit if the specific stupid thing he said was racist or not, he still needed to say sorry. and luckily he did so now we can just acknowledge that he was very drunk instead of actually a white supremacist
Grow some balls, he made joke he's not a racist. He shouldn't have apologized for this.
I don't see how doing a nazi salute and yelling white power is a joke. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] I always thought it was well known that Phil Anselmo is p racist.

He's pushing 50 and he should know better by now, so I'm not offended... just dissapointed in him. I accept his apology though, it seems very heartfelt. I feel almost the same way as with Michael Richards's outburst, in that comedy club. Except that Phil is more of a repeat offender and there's only 2 choices: either you own up to it, or stop being a dick. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] Also, as much as I like Robb's reply, I prefer Tommy Vext's reply.
Phil Anselmo, the way you just asked the metal community for "another chance" sounds a lot like a drunk father who just beat his wife and kids for the last time before the police have his ass thrown in jail. You know I find it ironic that in 2008, a bi racial man a Jew and a latino saved the mighty Phil Anselmo from getting the shit beaten out of him in the Rainbow Bar parking lot in Hollywood California. The man threatening you? A giant angry ARYAN disgruntled ex fan. Look at him Phil. Do you remember now? When a 6'6 300lb Caucasian monster of a dude said and I quote "you killed Dimebag" And after everyone else scattered like cockroaches who stepped up and got in between you two? Josh Villalta a Latino metal drummer from Louisiana. A man from your own beloved state. The other gentleman? A Jewish man and a multi platinum selling singer of the American metal band Disturbed by the name of David Draiman. And ME. I racially mixed metal singer from Brooklyn Ny in a small band called Divine Heresy at the time. That night You narrowly escaped into your sprinter van carried off by Down members Kirk & Pepper like a true rockstar COWARD. Hahaha White Power ? Sieg Heil? Having your life saved by a Jew, a latino and a Mulatto. My man, Color / Race do not bestow integrity on a man. They are simply the circumstances of your birth. Integrity, dignity and honor are earned by a man's actions. And your action prove you to have little of any. And once again you disrespected Darrel Abbot with your rambling ignorant incoherent junkie nonsense. This bullshit is exactly why Vinnie Paul will never play with you again. You took a momentous all star charity event and stole the spotlight light like a selfish king baby alcoholic man child. Fucking shame on you. Lastly and for the record..... I don't care if someone is racist. I don't care if you're a hateful bigot, prejudice, religious fanatic, atheist, black, white, brown, yellow or from fucking mars. Whatever you wanna be, be it. But treat your fellow man with common human decency. You stand up there in front of everyone in our community and preach about respect in your lyrics "Respect, Walk" WHEN YOU HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOURSELF, YOUR FANS, YOUR PEERS OR YOUR DECEASED BANDMATE TO WHOM YOU OWE YOUR ENTIRE SUCCESS. To ALL White Supremacist & Hitler sympathizers, if this message offends you please feel free to message me your coordinates and I'd be happy to say all of this to you face to face.
The amount of people trying to justify his behavior lmao. He should know better by now, and he should have apologized, so good on him for doing so.
Also, as much as I like Robb's reply, I prefer Tommy Vext's reply.
Holy fucking shit. Anselmo got fucking destroyed.

He wasn't wrong about anything he said. There was, and still is a trend of it being okay to be racist against white people. In the wine video he said white power, sure. I know you guys aren't big on jokes in this thread. But in the first two videos he was against racism of any kind. Being proud of who you are isn't racist, everyone should be. That was very much a positive message and I don't disagree with any of it. You guys should consider not being offended by everything.
Nobody would give a damn if an artist said black power. [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] You can say racist jokes and not be racist
Are you kidding me? If an artist started going on about black supremacy loads of guys on this forum would go fucking nuts.
Are you kidding me? If an artist started going on about black supremacy this forum would go fucking nuts.
you'd have a handful of posters freaking the fuck out you'd have a handful of posters freaking the fuck out that those people are freaking the fuck out and by and large the rest of us would say "this is pretty fucking stupid and self explanatory".
you'd have a handful of posters freaking the fuck out you'd have a handful of posters freaking the fuck out that those people are freaking the fuck out and by and large the rest of us would say "this is pretty fucking stupid and self explanatory".
If we judge by the majority then I'd bet way more people here would get pissy about say, black people or women claiming superiority than white people or men. Obviously the rational response is any kind of superior attitude is idiotic but when looking at the comparative outrage here regarding certain demographics the bias becomes fairly obvious.
tbh people do have a point that if someone said black power no one would give a fuck. i'm pretty big for freedom of speech on most grounds so i don't get why there is such a huge fuss. was it dumb? yeah, but not like he beat anyone to death or anything.
If we judge by the majority then I'd bet way more people here would get pissy about say, black people or women claiming superiority than white people or men. also people stop acting like musicians don't do this to get attention and reactions out of people. if you're so offended the most harmful thing to do to the band/musician is ignore them.
how can you seriously be an apologist about "white power" being yelled to a crowd actually being an inside joke [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] it's "prank" level justification.
