President-elect Donald Trump has asked roughly 50 senior Obama administration appointees to remain in their posts after his inauguration to ensure continuity in government, his incoming White House press secretary said Thursday.
The officials include the highest-ranking career officials at key national security agencies like the Pentagon and State Department.
Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work and America's third-ranking diplomat, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon, will serve as acting chiefs of their agencies until successors for the top jobs are confirmed by the Senate, Trump's spokesman Sean Spicer said.
There might be some continuation of policy then, at-elast.

For the time being. Expect them to be picked off one by one as we move forward (or, well, backwards).
"Please stay. Please stay. I don't know how to set the thermostat."
I wonder if Obama kept some of Bush's senior advisors when he was elected in 2008

Judging by the differences in their terms, I would say no
too busy doing those extensive ass kissing tests to actually fill positions, at least its not the total fuckup like the ambassador corps is, he dismissed them all so starting tommorow, we wont have a lot of key figures because hes too fucking narcasistic to let them stay for a while like litterally every other president has done

you've already decided that nothing donald does isn't evil, it seems.

Yeah, it's not like he could've vetted people beforehand, right? It's not like Trump's transition team still has yet to select hundreds of positions.
This just reinforces my belief that Trump ran expecting not to win, and now that he did he's scrambling to come up with everything he should've had put together a year ago.
you guys (and the media) really have a hard on for hating trump don't you?
isn't this standard procedure for incoming presidents? to keep some of the guys in power until they can find suitable replacements
Obama didn't replace Bush's nuke guys until his second term for chrissakes
I get the whole 'trump is bad' thing but when there's a negative story for everything the guy does (when in cases like this it isn't out of the ordinary) it really makes it look petty

* trump doesn't fire everybody that obama appointed
* ergo donald trump is shit
I... there's just no pleasing you people
So he backpedals on his claim that he was going to oust all the Obama picks on Day 1, and we're supposed to cheer? He's stepping away from an idiotic decision. Good for him.
I'm not going to act like he's smart for doing the obviously not retarded thing.
Now who's going to drain the swamp?

when you simplify a statement down that much, you're no longer arguing against anything or anyone in particular. you've added nothing to the conversation, but you've found a way to feel superior to someone that you've made up.
all that has happened here is trump didn't do something stupid. should we be excited about that? that our president elect didn't make a mistake?
you've already decided that nothing donald does isn't evil, it seems.
So far he hasn't proven he's gonna do anything right.

Really? I remember reading that revoking ambassadorships was a standard thing when president changes. Also that ambassadorships are rewarded on convenience more so than diplomatic ability.

Guns and the military, but I can see why some people would think those aren't right.

at least i'll have a silencer on my pistol

I wonder if Garry will get another email from the CIA after Trump's inauguration about this post.
President X could cure cancer and the next day the opposing party would claim that he/she was putting oncologists out of business.
Granted, Trump seems to be getting it a little worse.

I don't even think he's doing those things right. I think he's throwing us gun nuts a gimme just to keep some semblance of support in the country, and while he did pick a good SecDef, I honestly think he's going to be just as ruinous to the military as he is to everything else he's got enough control over to ruin. He's a giant orange idiot that has no idea how anything works and refused to even acknowledge that much less try to address that.
The only thing he's proven is that he's going to be a megadisaster and that our only hope for not shifting back to second-world status is for congressional gridlock to stymy his attempts at social policy regression.
