EA: Steam vs Origin not a “proper battle,” there’s space for both
“I don’t even know if Steam Vs. Origin is a proper battle. I would rephrase that a little,” EA Europe leader Jens Uwe Intat told GamesIndustry.biz. “I would say that we’re introducing Origin as our consumer relationship platform. We want to build a platform that allows consumers to have the best experience you could ever had with EA games. It’s going to be one of the offerings that consumers can use. There’s a space for Steam, there’s a space for Origin, there’s a space for third party etailers. Both pure etailers and traditional retailers that are entering the digital distribution space.”
The best experience? if by best experience they mean Connection Issues,Games not appearing on the list
Origin servers crashing
then it is! the best service!
Origin as compared to Steam, is a major difference.
Origin is in it's baby stages, and it's trying to compete with Valve, who has a much better run and much more user friendly system.
Also: Origin doesn't let you change your Nickname.
I'm stuck with "Asdadasdasdasd".
Of course theres space for both of them!
You know what might be even better? The two competing for more ground, ending in the customers getting some pretty good deals!
(hopefully!)
But then again, I don't think Origin will ever really be a match for Steam. Steam has been around for soo long, has improved soo much, has gained so much ground and fans, and its very user friendly and has quite friendly rules.
Origin on the other hand has none of those.
:colbert: none at all... right?
Unless EA pulls a shitload of BF's out of its ass and doesn't sells them on Steam, then Origin wont even have the chance to compete.
Don't cancel matchmaking on Origin, it doesn't let you start it up again.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s not a competitor to Steam, I’m just saying that there’s more people out there than just Steam and Origin. While with Battlefield and Call of Duty, it’s really just about those two, that’s the difference.”

EA COO Peter Moore, meanwhile, described the two companies’ relationship as complimentary, noting that EA’s main goal is to interact directly with its customers. Origin, then, exists to fill in the gaps where Steam and like services don’t allow it to do that.
*fizzle... pop*
They're holding hands in public, but they probably still hate eachother's guts.
I'm still pre-ordering retail
*fizzle... pop*
So, they are trying to win by calling out on other distribution platforms mistakes?
Good luck fighting Steam then... I honestly don't see them going anywhere without some evil scheme.
Origin is trying to gain Steam's market, yet it's trying a different approach. Unfortunatley it dosen't seem to be working well and they may need to rethink a few things.

Sounds exactly like Steam when it first launched.
There was also the time offline mode in Steam required you to log in online first, so if you had no internet you couldn't play your games.
I just keep games I want to buy on an automated price watcher for both Origin and Steam, which ever one puts that game on discount first wins the race.
I know most of you are deeply offended by EA talking about Steam but look more into what he said.

He's right. Origin is not going to be the last online digital distribution service you're going to see so top being so butthurt about another company challenging Steam.

Still happens.
People seem to forget that Steam was horrible when it first launched. Many people hated it completley, a few of the older people I know disliked it so much from a bad starting experience, that they only recently got it over the past year. Valve decided to pull their socks up in order to improve Steam, and right now it's the reason why it's dominating the market.
Seriously, I really think if EA didn't make Origin and someone else did I bet it wouldn't be as much of a problem people are making it out to be.

I was one of those who went back to the old WON servers when Steam launched until Valve finally pulled the plug on them.
I'd suspect that all the people who worship Steam are fairly recent users who never experienced the horror of Steam's launch.

My rage.
Steam > Origin

People also seem to forget that Origin is a re-branding of EA Downloader/EA Link/EA Download Manager and has existed since 2005.

Seems like plenty of time to improve.

Sure, not its launch date, but still, never ever had problems with it. In fact, the stuff I could actually call problems was solved with their tech support fairly easily.
The difference between Steam and Origin for me is that I have to use Origin. I want to use Steam, and I do so for the majority of my non-steam and steam-based games.
Steam wins because by default Valve will always be the better company in Gamer's eyes.
How can you call it a competition if you don't even allow your two services to compete? Witholding games from Steam means people are forced to use your system and you can go home and jack off at the high number of subscribers that you have.
Steam wins because by default Valve will always be the better company in Gamer's eyes.
There are many companies that are better than Valve
Everything from EA sucks nowadays.
Hell, I'm rolling back drivers now because I crash errday with these shitty BF3 drivers.
You have to use Origin to play a couple anticipated titles that require Origin. You have to use Steam to play a couple anticipated titles that require Steam.
Point being, Steam has already gained the lead with third-party support, but EA's Origin is lacking behind.
the only reason most people hate Origin is because of the Battlefield 3 exclusivity.
You can still buy the games that require Steam from EA, or any other distribution. But not all retailers sell BF3 (notably Steam).
Steam is preferable because, having existed longer, it is more well-rounded and I don't run into NEARLY as many bugs in an week of using Steam as I do in an hour of using Origin. Origin could easily shape up to be of equal or greater quality than Steam someday, but I am not here to wait for someday. Let us use one simple service to organize our friends list and games so everything doesn't become a confused mess of passwords.
This battlelog nonsense is not necessary with the Steam framework.

I've recently tried out Origin and I've used EA Download Manager for several years (had two EA games that I meant to buy on Steam) and I very much dislike both of them.
not a proper battle yet

No, they're substitute goods.
