After 44 years as a Progressive Conservative stronghold, Albertans threw their support behind the left-leaning New Democratic Party (NDP) in an upset election. But it was too much for many of those loyal to the old ways of the West.
The results had some Albertans on social media threatening to move to Saskatchewan, the neighbouring province.

Some Albertans worry that if corporate taxes increase under the NDP, businesses - especially oil companies, which have already laid off thousands of workers since oil prices began to fall last summer - will move elsewhere, which would result in increased unemployment in Alberta.
NDP leader Rachel Notley has already said she will not lobby for oil pipelines, such as Keystone XL, the success of which was a priority for the Progressive Conservative party.
And markets appeared to respond to the news. Shortly after opening on Wednesday, Canada's TSX stock index fell with significant losses among energy companies.
This is too much. :v:
PC sheep's have always been that way. They will follow the herd even if they get fucked in the ass.
Honestly, I would be okay if we lost those types of people to Saskatchewan. No Albertan likes anyone from there anyways.
And so, the great Canadian Exodus begins.
NDP is the lesser of three evils, its been a week since they have been in office and people are saying that the world is falling on to itself. Give it a chance ffs, we let the PC's fuck up everything and it would take political suicide for them to do the same.
I almost wanna say "haha get fucked" because oil is bad, but a good chunk of Alberta's economy (and society) lives off of the stuff. They have good reason to be worried. If the NDP kills the oil sector, Alberta's going to feel it
No please Saskatchewan is already 20 years behind the rest of the country. We don't need oil rednecks holding us back even more.

The previous government already killed it. Who would have thought that selling the Chinese government access rights to thousands and thousands of square kilometres of oil sands that already have a razor thin profit margin would leave Alberta with pennies?
Oh wait, everyone thought that.

Saskatchewan has the same demographics as Alberta, but our ridings are gerrymandered to hell and back in a way that completely erases the urban vote.
I too would make great haste to leave if I lived in a place known to senior levels of the federal government as "Albertastan".

Intensify northward batteries, I don't want any of those canadians getting through!

Also if you see any US republican refugees politely inform them that Obama is leaving office and Bush is running for it, so its safe to come back now
It seems like theirs a group of people worrying about losing their jobs.
I'm just baffled that these people still have that much faith in Harper
I'm hoping we see something like this in the federal elections and Harper loses his seat.
It might be too much to ask for a party other than the Conservatives to win the election, and it might be too much to ask for a Conservative minority victory, but at the very least a Conservative majority without Harper is not too much to ask.
If he comes back with a majority, I'm moving to space. Asteroid Base Spacepunch accepting reservations now, Gold Members only.

Boo fucking hoo, you can't buy a new truck, boat and camper this year and may have to sell your big house in Fort Mac because the NDP raised the taxes on your oil money. I'm so fucking sorry for your loss.
I still don't know what they're bitching about. Corporate tax was higher under Ralph Kelin that what Notley is planning and they keep thinking Notley is going to put a provincial sales tax in place even though she never said anything about that. And my personal favorite was someone in the comments on CBC saying "Alberta is an oil province not an education province. Universities shouldn't get more money" or something to that effect.
I don't know much about Canada's regions, but going by this thread, it feels like Alberta is Canada's version of Texas but without the "we were once independent" rhetoric.
"Texas North" is an established nickname for Alberta, yes.
