[release]Fans of the original Xbox lineup should get in their online games of Halo 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront while they can. Microsoft says they will discontinue Xbox Live support for all original Xbox titles starting April 15. "We'll continue to evolve the service with features and experiences that harness the full power of Xbox 360," says Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten in a statement. "To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox V1 games." One of those changes could involve raising the number of players Xbox 360 owners can add as friends. G4 reported last August 360 friends lists are limited to 100 because of obstacles tied to the original Xbox Live infrastructure and the online popularity of shooter Halo 2, which reportedly forced Microsoft to keep original Xbox titles available online for a longer period. Microsoft did not provide details on exactly how many players might be affected by the change. Readers, are you still playing older Xbox games online? What do you think of the change?[/release] Source It kinda sucks, since some of those games are still fun to play online even today. :sigh:
Aw man! That sucks! I would've played my old games if I wasn't banned from LIVE, but I understand the users that'll feel cheated on now! :(
>Xbox 360 >> Cancelling games like Halo 2 >>> Implications that it's bad. Ha ha ha.
>Xbox 360 >> Cancelling games like Halo 2 >>> Implications that it's bad. Ha ha ha.
What?
Eh, it was bound to happen. However it still sucks to see they're doing that. People will move on and forget.
What?
He is a 4chan user, don't bother.
There was a thread on this in the News Node or something. I assumed they'd shut it down years ago, but the fact that it will affect Xbox games running on a 360 is :(
It sucks, but, come on. 360's have backwards compatibility, and it's 2010. I think it's time to move on already.
Hey, come on over the the PS3.
>Xbox 360 >> Cancelling games like Halo 2 >>> Implications that it's bad. Ha ha ha.
I'm just glad Jet Set Radio Future will still work since it's singleplayer - sadly to say it's not that I have an xbox 360 anymore anyhow.

Read this on Neowin a while ago. I don't see why. Seems arbitrary.
Sucks cause I love halo 2. No more late night games with my friends. :(
It sucks, but, come on. 360's have backwards compatibility, and it's 2010. I think it's time to move on already.
Xbox games run on a 360 will lose their online capabilities as well.
Eh, it was bound to happen. However it still sucks to see they're doing that. People will move on and forget. He is a 4chan users, don't bother.
Yeah I noticed, he is better of in the OIFY.
Read this on Neowin a while ago. I don't see why. Seems arbitrary.
Guess not enough people are using it anymore to cover the running costs.
Can't you still play Halo 2 online though the 360 Xbox live?
It sucks, but, come on. 360's have backwards compatibility, and it's 2010. I think it's time to move on already.
maybe there are some people that want to play a round of halo 2 for old times sake but cant because xbox like is dead and none of the person's friends want to play it on splitscreen
Sucks cause I love halo 2. No more late night games with my friends. :(
You can use a third party software called Xlink kai or something to connect to them using system link, like hamachi for xbox.
Can't you still play Halo 2 online though the 360 Xbox live?
No.
You can use a third party software called Xlink kai or something to connect to them using system link, like hamachi for xbox.
Yeah, that'll work! I would use it, if I just had a router! Will also work with your banned consoles!
Yeah, that'll work! I would use it, if I just had a router! Will also work with your banned consoles!
You do need a router I'm pretty sure, but it should work on banned consoles.
Xbox games run on a 360 will lose their online capabilities as well.
Oh, I didn't know that. Sorry.
They could patch the older original games to work through 360 XBox Live. Hahahahaha yeah right.
The point is that they want people to buy Xbox 360 games and an Xbox 360. They don't want you using old systems cause that limits their profits.
RIP timesplitters future perfect servers for the third time
Who cares.I mean that playing the games on the xbox is really cool but 90% of the games on the original xbox are on the PC and the rest is shit.
Hey, come on over the the PS3.
No thanks, I like playing games like Mass Effect and enjoy earlier DLC releases.
No thanks, I like playing games like Mass Effect and enjoy earlier DLC releases.
Incoming shitstorm.
Sucks cause I love halo 2. No more late night games with my friends. :(
Just go to your friends' houses and play local games?
