Hello,
I am looking to buy a notebook, i will start with a list of things i would like to do with it...
Mobile Web browsing
So a Umts card would be cool, but is not necessary i have a Umts Stick.
Photoshop
So a nice display and proper resolution would be cool, also at least 2 Usb ports because i would like to use my Wacom Pad with it.
Games
I am not talking about super high end games, it would be plenty if Source Engine Games, WoW and some other things would run stable, and yes i know that for gaming a desktop Computer would be better but i already have one, and i just need a Laptop for reasons i don't really want to explain here...
Mapping
It would be great if i could map with Hammer mobile and even better if i could compile the maps in a bearable amount of time.
The usual Stuff
Watching movies, series, listening too music and other stuff, so a good set of speakers on the Notebook would be pretty nice.
Some other things i would like to include would be a Matte display, a Trackball (like on Thinkpads), Windows 7 would be cool also i know those are terribly expensive but a Solid State Disk would be nice...
Also a few optional things like an internal DVD Drive, a Webcam, a Microphone and a Keyboard light would be cool.
So that's about it, now to the rest,
My location is Germany and i would spend about 1000€ maybe a bit more.
also here is something i found but it had some things that bugged me like low battery run time, no SSD and pretty bad guarantee (only 12 months) though the price was pretty good.

So i hope this is enough information,
and please try to ignore my not so great English skills and my half amateur Computer knowledge.
I'd highly recommend the 13" Macbook Pro, and if you can get a student discount, it's in your price range. I own the 2.53ghz model and it does pretty much anything I can throw at it, be that Source Engine based games, WoW or 1080p video. Battery life is very good, I can get about 4.5-5 hours just web browsing. Has most of the stuff you've said though, oh and you can install Windows 7 on it too.
If you're going to be using it for student stuff, definitely get a MacBookPro as Hexxeh said. If not, you might be better off getting a windows laptop (dell do decent laptops, don't trust their desktops)
How is this PC building?

Well dumb people have a different perception of the world.

The Making threads (and replying) in this section. of this section says
What this section is for:
-Getting help choosing parts for a computer
-Getting help building a computer
-Getting help with prebuilts
-Getting help with laptops

and i guess this falls under help.

Personally this would fall under hardware and software. If they were building a laptop it would fit in pc building.

yeah now that's a great reply...
i really don't care much about this crap maybe i could have posted it under Hardware and Software but i didn't and i don't think i should have, but if some mod wants to move this, fine...
so now back to the Topic,
thanks for the replies, but i don't really like Apple, and i would be pretty confused by Mac OS i never really used it and please don't start a flame war about it, i respect that some people really really like Apple but i just don't.
currently i am think about buying an Acer Aspire 5739G-744G50Mn for about 759€

A little bit over the budget but definitely worth the extra.

That one looks pretty good, but there are a few things that bug me about it, for once it's only Vista but i would probably put Ubuntu on it and just put a XP or maybe Win7 system on it for gaming and other stuff. Another thing that kinda bugs me is that it has a Blu Ray drive, i don't really think that's necessary for my needs and it just costs a lot but i can't seem to find a version that doesn't have one, and i don't get why there only is one shop that sells this Notebook...
I don't know if you hear this yet but any computer containing Vista bought before Jan 2010 are eligible to be upgraded to Windows 7 for free. Just contact the computer manufacturer.
This thread is now a petition to change PC Building to PC Building and Buying

Sounds good, count me in.
But please don't hijack it completely...
also about that Vista to 7 upgrade, sounds good, but how is it decided which version of 7 i get? is it like i got Home Vista so i get Home Win7 or do i just get the crappy starter version or something?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
