We may be getting closer to an update, however, as Pike's Universum has discovered a reference to a new Mac code name of "AAPLJ951" within OS X El Capitan. The identity of the Mac corresponding to that code name is not explicitly revealed in OS X, but Pike points to the similar AAPLJ90 code name for the current Mac Pro as a reason to believe this new machine is a Mac Pro.
I wanna see a return of that sexy mesh motif they had from G5 to Pro 2013
I can't imagine what would push someone who isn't incredibly rich to buy one of these things. You could build one yourself for much cheaper though it wouldn't have OSX (though some might argue that's a plus)

Yeah there's not much reason to not build a Frankenmac Pro except for the loss of cool-ass case But now that the cool-ass case isn't as cool-ass anymore the only thing you have to lose is the thunderbolts. OSX is pretty good though, I'd build a Frankenmac Pro if I had the time and supplies.
If only there were a way to perforate that case with holes without fucking it up...
You could build one yourself for much cheaper though it wouldn't have OSX (though some might argue that's a plus)
That's basically the entire point of why people buy Macs. I like the OS, but god damn the pricing is ridiculous. I just noticed the cheapest macbook pro is the same price as their cheapest desktop. Not sure I understand the logic behind that.
Caselabs are damn nice cases too, if a bit too plain as well. Their new Nova line is nice though whenever they finish coming out with all the cases, and the Mercury is interesting. It definitely can be done.

My grandpa just picked up a new 5k iMac and the screen is glorious. Plus the entire base model is the same price as the competing Dell 5k monitor.
Yeah, I used to think Retina on full feature computers was a gimmick, hoh boy have my views literally changed
Can we at least all agree that the G5 towers were easily the most gorgeous computers ever made? I have serious reservations about Apple's post-Jobs design decisions, with both the Mac Pro and iPhone redesigns being garbage imo

The current cinema display, although it looks damn fine, it a bit dated.

I haven't tried daisychaining yet, is it actually viable?
Post-Jobs Apple has fucked things up so quickly. Like, I knew Jobs made Apple what it was, but seeing it crash and burn as fast as it has was still a shock to me.
this is a workplace machine, apple doesn't expect home users to buy this
Goddamn if a workplace budgets this shit in for their work then they'll be broke by next quarter.
Goddamn if a workplace budgets this shit in for their work then they'll be broke by next quarter.
High end Windows workstations (HP, lenovo, etc) aren't exactly cheap either.
Goddamn if a workplace budgets this shit in for their work then they'll be broke by next quarter.
Not really. As Angus said competing workstation models aren't exactly cheap either. And it's all relative to the company's needs. We have customers here that pay us tens of thousands a month for managed network, servers, and internet.
I wonder if they're still going to take the "sexy garbage can" approach to the new case design.
Apple just love fucking over the professional users.
I might be missing but wouldn't you need some of that stuff on the 2012 anyway? Base model 2012 Mac Pro doesn't come with fibre or video capture or anything. I doubt the 2012 would have an audio interface worth $600+ either. Two disc drives is a bit silly
Not to mention that thunderbolt enclosures are still stupidly expensive.
Imo, I would rather buy the 2012 version fully upgraded on eBay than the hipster cylinder.
Not to mention that thunderbolt enclosures are still stupidly expensive.
I mean, I'd love to use Thunderbolt, but anything that does come with Thunderbolt connectivity tends to be stupid expensive.
