• Nintendo Ds Cartridges

My ds is sitting in the corner gathering dust, and lately since my psp died and my htc touch pro has kicked the bucket I've had no way to watch movies and listen to music on the go. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for ds cartridges in an overall ease of use and function. The main one everyone is raving about is the R4. Anyone know how it stacks up to the M3 and other cheaper cards?
when buying an R4 make sure you aren't buying a forgery. That happened to me once.
Yeah, the R4 cards aren't made anymore, and the legit ones don't support SDHC or the DSi. Made the mistake of buying one of the SDHC versions for a friend, and it's stupidly slow to boot up, has stuttery menus, and is built as cheaply as possible.
I've been really happy with my M3 Real. M3i Zero is out now though.
if you can find an M3Real online, buy it. But everywhere I look, it's sold out. M3i looks good too.
I love my M3 Real. I loaded M3Sakura on it and it works amazingly.
I have a card I bought on dealextreme for $5 and free shipping, though their out of stock and can't sell any more due to copyright reasons, if you want to check ebay you can look for the DSTT.
M3s have excellent reviews on all models from what I've seen. Never had the chance to use one myself. But after using a friends R4 I have wanted one for a while.
Isn't CycloDS the best one still?
The R4 is nowhere near as good as an Acekard 2i with AKAIO Firmware or MRi Zero with Sakura Firmware.
I have a DSTT myself
I'm really happy I still have my genuine R4 card, the others I've seen boot up so slow.
Yeah, my genuine R4 loads everything so quickly. Even itself - no loading screen. Just turn on my DS, go past the warning screen, and bam, there's the menu. Click the Games icon, and it's up in nanoseconds.
I'm still using my old M3 MiniSD. (slot 2). Works good, even on new releases.
R4? Those are so 20 years ago. Everyone raves about the AceKard now. You can pick up an AceKard2i for around $15-$20. Then pick up an 4GB or 8GB microsd card to go with it for $10-$20. Just make sure the microsd you buy has fast read speeds.
The 2i looks shitty compared to the RPG. The RPG has a USB port too, meaning you don't have to constantly turn off your DS, remove the MicroSD card, put it in the reader, transfer files and put it back in the DS. You'll be doing this a LOT if you're developing software and it's a pain in the ass(I speak from experience). Plus, it has 1GB inbuilt memory which is supposedly fast. No DSi support but honestly if you buy a DSi you're stupid. Two useless cameras in place of the GBA slot? What were Nintendo thinking? http://www.acekard.com/product.php?type=rpg Also, I have an original legit R4. It's great, no speed problems in any games plus it's instant on with fast load times.
I've had an M3 real, M3, And a CycloDS, Cyclo being the best by far.
I have the DSTT. It was cheapest when I bought it, and it works flawlessly. I haven't had any problems.
I used to have an original legit R4, but I lost it a while ago, I wish I still had it. :sigh:
if you can find an M3Real online, buy it. But everywhere I look, it's sold out. M3i looks good too.
You do realize the M3 is just an R4 re-brand, right? AceKard 2i is the current best. You can also try the AceKard RPG if you want internal memory in addition to MicroSDs, and a micro-USB plug on the actual cartridge. It'll cost you around $50 though. In addition those either of those two, you can grab an EZFlash V for rumble, extra ram (For homebrew games like Quake 2), and the ability to play home brew GBA games. The AceKard firmware supports it naively. If you do decide to get one, grab the AKAIO firmware for it. It adds a ton of features over the stock AK2 firmware.
You do realize the M3 is just an R4 re-brand, right?
You know it's actually the opposite? R4 is made in the same factory that M3 makes theirs. (R4i is a fake and it's not even made by that factory)
You know it's actually the opposite? R4 is made in the same factory that M3 makes theirs. (R4i is a fake and it's not even made by that factory)
You're wrong. The R4i is a fake, yes. But M3 Real/Simply came after the R4.
You're wrong. The R4i is a fake, yes. But M3 Real/Simply came after the R4.
No I'm not wrong. :) Everyone knows that R4 is a cheap copy of M3.
No I'm not wrong. :) Everyone knows that R4 is a cheap copy of M3.
No, you're wrong. The R4 came first. The actual hardware is exactly the same, as they are/were made in the same factory. I'd like to hear from this "everyone".
Did I say that R4 came after M3? no. Just because R4 came first doesn't mean that it's not a copy. After all, factories obviously got prototypes before release. (M3 Simply was announced much much earlier than R4)
In all relativity, they are the same, identical flash card with subtle differences. First, both the M3DSS and R4DS are manufactured at the same lab. The first issue models of each card can be modified with a soldering tool to convert from one brand to the other.
They were both made at the same time, however R4, and the team behind it, was new competitors in the flash kit market, and that was their first product. While M3 is actually quite old.
:downs:
Insecure are we? Anyway OP, there is reviews of the suggested flashcards here: Akekard RPG review Acekard 2i
Thanks for the reviews. I've been having trouble with my internet lately (getting a lot of corrupted files and webpages.) Basically it's between the two acekards at the moment, I just need to decide how much I want to spend.

All I've seen are the AceKard 2's and 2i's.
Yeah, anyone know where to buy an Acekard RPG that ships to the UK?
I've got a Cyclo and its never failed me.
