Another Post-Apocalyptic Thread - Cyclone Yasi (Nothing To Do With Snow).

Hey Facepunch, what's up? I live in a place called Townsville, in Queensland, Australia. Around ten hours from now, a category five Cyclone is going to cross the coast and make landfall. For those who don't know, a category five is the highest measured level of a Cyclone to be measured in Australia. You guys will probably remember Hurricane Katrina and the amount of devastation she caused. A day or two ago, they said the devastation was going to rival that of her, and now the storm has intensified some more.
This is what's happening with the cyclone, which has been called Yasi by the Fijians:

To quote the Bureau of Meteorology:
SEVERE TC YASI IS A LARGE AND VERY POWERFUL TROPICAL CYCLONE AND POSES AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY WITHIN THE WARNING AREA, ESPECIALLY BETWEEN CAIRNS AND TOWNSVILLE.
THIS IMPACT IS LIKELY TO BE MORE LIFE THREATENING THAN ANY EXPERIENCED DURING RECENT GENERATIONS.
Many places are being evacuated; I've literally just heard on the news in the background of my house that it's the largest evacuation ever undertaken in Australian history. I also heard a rumour that the airport received 5000 body bags last night, which was nevertheless pretty demoralizing. As you can see, the cyclone is heading almost directly to a place called Innisfail, which was flattened by a category 3 cyclone a few years ago and is still recovering.
If you have family or friends in Queensland, give them a call and make sure they're okay. I have family all over the world and not one of them has called, so you'd know it'd mean a lot to them if you did.
If you live in Queensland, I'd like you to keep safe. Bunker down, or get out. Don't be a hero, don't leave the house and keep safe. Wear shoes in case of broken glass and shattered windows. Find the strongest part of your house, usually the bathroom, listen to the radio and make sure you have a kit in case of injury. Get a generator too, if you haven't already. Do it now, they're priceless.
You may not know me or anyone else in Queensland, but I hope you can feel empathy for the storm we're about to face. This is Aries, Facepunching for the last time until I'm safe.
Edit: Looks like the cyclone took out the Bureau's weather radar. Keep safe Eluveitie, Neipsy and Gas_Snake.
You're in Townsville and HAVEN'T evacuated?
you're so fucked dude, why are you still there?
I've got a mate in townsville, I wish the both of you and him and basically everyone else in Townsville the best of luck, keep safe man.
Holy shit - stay safe.
Shit I'll be sleeping when this happens, no live feed for me ):
I hope you and your family make it out okay.
Keep us posted.
Shit man I hope you and your family and everyone else who lives there are okay :frown:
I hope you stay okay man, I really do.
When is it scheduled to hit the coast?
they say about midnight tonight, witch is in about 10 hours from now
Stand outside topless and shout
"COME AT ME BRO"
My godfather is in Townsville, shit
Category 5 hurricane? And you haven't evacuated?
Holy shit you do realize that the hurricane that fucked Louisiana was a category 5.
I mean, here in Florida we get lots of Hurricanes but those are the fun ones like category 1-3 but cat 4 and 5 are just fucking scary.
Just hope the powerpuff girls save you in time
Holy fucking shit. Don't bother evacuating anymore, you won't get out before it makes landfall. Get ready to take precautions and do whatever it takes to make it. Good luck, man. Don't be the first known FP-er to die in a Hurricane.
Hope for the best to anyone in the path of this hurricane.
If I can find some more batteries for my camera, I'll try. I doubt they'll be anything special, but if you want it...
Ask the Powerpuff girls for help.
Cyclone =/= Hurricane?
To me a cyclone is a tornado. But then again I'm American.
Good luck OP, remember your bathtub is the strongest part of your house...
Different name for a different part of the world. Technically, all all hurricanes are cyclones but not all cyclones are hurricanes: if their wind speed is over 74 miles per hour/120 kilometres per hour, it is a hurricane. If not, it's still a cyclone.

If I may ask, what compelled you to stay where you are, seems like you're gonna get nailed.
Cyclones are hurricanes.
Best of luck, I hope you make it.
Just be sure to post once the cyclone is over so we know you're alive.
Thats fucked bro, best of luck to you man
Remember, your wall safe is a good place to store infants and young children during a hurricane.
mother of god you're going to get absolutely fucked in the ass
good luck
op is going to die a slow and painful death
