One Millions Moms, a non-profit organization whose “goal is to stop the exploitation of our children, especially by the entertainment media (TV, music, movies, etc.), has launched a petition and campaign to have its members contact Olive Garden via phone, social media, and email and tell them to pull their advertising dollars from Fox’s new show Lucifer.
The call to action dubs Lucifer as “spiritually dangerous” because it “glorifies Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh.” It goes on to claim that the message of the show is “Lucifer is misunderstood. He doesn’t want to be a bad guy, it’s God who is forcing him to play that role.”
While, One Million Moms is free to exercise their opinion and apply pressure to sponsors including Olive Garden and Fox itself, this petition is absolutely insane. They want to starve advertising dollars for the show in order to have Fox cancel it. But they are also attempting to pawn off the responsibility for their own children onto the sponsors of the television show and the producers of the show itself.
Entitled soccer moms as usual, trying to ruin it for everyone else.
I mean, the serpent did give Adam the knowledge of good and evil and all that shit. Which enabled the rise of mankind's civilization.
The story basically amounts to god throwing a tantrum cause they didn't play the game the way he wanted. I mean fuck, you read the bible you can clearly tell that the god portrayed in it is not the kindest of beings. At the same time Lucifer is a bit of a cunt as well.

He gave them the knowledge of good and evil by deceiving them to embrace evil, therefor fully knowing what it was to be evil. There's no redeeming value in that story for the serpent. His only goal is to deceive and destroy.

It is in the context of the Biblical narrative. It's only not clear when you read it eisegetically, inputting your own ideas into the text.
Thanks to those million moms i now found myself a new show to watch since it actually looks interesting.
Lucifer! Raise your lantern, and lead me through the darkness!
read Paradise Lost g
even paradise lost has a lot of different interpretations
satan just seems to devolve into becoming a bigger and bigger asshole throughout it until by the end he's making trouble for god just for shits and giggles
Oh, right. There's an organisation called One Million Moms. I came in here impressed that one million individuals mothers teamed up to complain about this series.
Well, I'd never heard of this show before, but now I want to go watch it...
Or don't let your child sit in front of the TV while the show is on.
But thanks for letting me know this show was a thing, it seems interesting.

Yeah they're some shitty organization with a pitiful number of members, so they use that name to sound like they matter. The last time I remember hearing about them was in like 2010 or something. How are they even still around lol
Considering when paired with the X-Files FOX had their best Monday night since the premier of Gotham, yeah I think it's safe to say they won't give any kinds of fucks.
"Oh My God Something that offends me because i'm a retarded twat, because of that noone else should enjoy it!"

Dude, that's blasphemy
i'm boycotting your posts

People tend to side with Lucifer on the basis that he's fucking badass.
Wasn't One Million Moms a satirical group?

It's a pretty incredible leap of faith for me to take the book as you would in a vacuum and hold it up to reality though.
Not the first time Satan has been portrayed in a not-so-negative light. John Milton's Paradise Lost cast Satan as a traditional hero, and made people sympathize him, too. Maybe Olive Garden should sponsor a re-release.

I'm not even saying read it as reality. I'm saying read it for what it is actually trying to say. The idea of exegesis isn't unique to Biblical interpretation. It applies to all interpretation.
Basically, IF the story represents reality (whether allegorically or literally, doesn't really matter), then the serpent has no redeeming qualities.

yeah but he's also an asshole
Or don't let your child sit in front of the TV while the show is on.
The problem is, that's the right thing to do.
great job now I am interested in this tv show.
Lucifer isn't Satan, though...
Lucifer's just a fallen angel, he never becomes Satan, he never becomes the Serpent, and he's never referred to again outside of the Book of Isaiah. In fact, most Jewish tradition maintains that they're three separate and distinct characters.
In a lot of ways, Lucifer would just be a misunderstood guy who got greedy and was tossed out for it.
Satan is the manifestation of evil in Judaism, but isn't really ever personified until the New Testament. Satan is basically just a force that acts through people and events, at least until it starts appearing in flesh much later on.
But I guess we shouldn't judge a Christian soccer mom activist group too harshly for not being well-versed in theology, should we?
"This show doesn't sound like the scary stuff my pastor says and it's going to make my children think about the dichotomy of good and evil and critically analyze the bible and then they're gonna wear black and listen to music with parental adivsory stickers BOYCOTT ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION OF SCRIPTURE NOW"
In another article last year, the original author (Neil Gaiman), said this about the whole situation:
"Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organising a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform."
He added: "I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…"
Too bad the show is frankly garbage.

Yeah, and we all know if there's two things religion hates, it's faith and moral absolutism.
They filmed some of this in the restaurant next to my work, i've been looking forward to seeing it!
