But if people ignore the warnings, no further action will be taken.
this sounds like just another way to throw money away
-snip-
I thought as a species we'd moved beyond such cruel and unusual punishments as angry letters. This is brutal, have they no mercy?
This is too British a response honestly. "We will write you angry letters, but do it again, and we don't know what else." I half expected 4AM police raids.
I only pirate stuff I can't easily get a hold of. If I need to pay out the ass to watch Game of Thrones, or to get a copy of a game from like 10 years ago I'm just not going to do it.
I don't know if you want to admit to pirating stuff on here; but I know exactly where you are coming from. As regards to the topic, there is only a certain level they can go too. They'll just set examples, fining people an absurd number that they won't be able to pay off in the life time because some Hollywood company got jipped a little bit of cash, despite them already having millions.
I could imagine this collapsing under the sheer weight of letters that would have to be sent out and could turn out to be very hit and miss. I mean I could imagine some ISPs flagging up Bittorrent traffic by default and sending a letter when they've done nothing wrong.
Jokes on them I can just pull out my SSD and wreck it if they even try to raid.
I don't use my ISP-provided email address, nor do I know anyone that does. So would anyone ever even see these emails?
Oh this will be as effective as sending letters to peoples houses begging them to pay the tv license.
Jokes on them I can just pull out my SSD and wreck it if they even try to raid.
because that wouldn't make you look suspicious at all
because that wouldn't make you look suspicious at all
I think the fact that they don't have any evidence in court could potentially save your ass
Wouldn't you be charged for obstructing a police investigation?
I think the fact that they don't have any evidence in court could potentially save your ass
Can't SSDs instantly overwrite everything with 0s as well? That'd be even less conspicuous.
Wouldn't you be charged for obstructing a police investigation?
I guess that's true, if they catch you red handed.
No one seems to understand the point of this. It's not to catch pirates and inflict large fines and lawsuits. It's an awareness campaign to ensure people suspected of pirating are informed of legal sources for movies, TV and music. Some people don't even know what they're doing is illegal, especially children and the older generation and as long as the users rights are respected I see nothing wrong with this.
One word: lol
That's three words.
This is extremely useful for identifying which illegal sources of downloads they'll catch you using if they ever introduce penalties and which they aren't monitoring.
