• My build! (need a second opinion on compatability/perfomance)
    14 replies, posted
Hey there! so here is my current build. What I need help with is I need to know that A: The parts are compatible and will utilize their features fully. B: I am not spending money somewhere that I really don't need to! Thanks in advance for any help! On a side note I would like to point out that the people of this forum always do a wonderful job of helping me when I am uncertain about things like this! [editline]14th February 2012[/editline] In addition. I am willing to re use parts from my current computer. I will re use the HDD for sure. But i feel the case is not large enough to be re used. I would post the full stats on my current computer but it seems that hotmail is broken this very moment... Which sucks.. It has alot of my stuff in there.. But I will edit when I get the info.
Give us a budget, imo you are wasting money on the Motherboard, get a P8Z68/Gen 3 or the likes. A 64gb ssd is pratically useless imo aswell.

Why would you get a Micro ATX mobo for an ATX case?
Oh god, don't get an Antec 900/902. I have the 902. I regretted buying it in 2010 and I regret it now. It has very little room for cable management and no room for SLI with the HDD cages. I've saved you some money below so I would spend the extra bit and get Cooler Master's new storm trooper. It's only $149 at the moment Cooler Master Storm Trooper Also that power supply is overpriced as hell, like most Corsair PSUs. I would get this one. Seasonic made 850W, can't really go wrong. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207011 I would get a full ATX mobo. The ASRock Extreme4 comes to mind. If you plan to use SSD caching get the more expensive Z68 one. If you don't then get the less expensive P67 one. Extreme4 P67 Extreme4 Z68 A 2GB GTX 560 Ti is stupid. It'll just get bottlenecked by the 256bit bus width, and at a resolution where you need 2GB of VRAM you won't get satisfactory performance anyway. For that price the GTX 560 Ti 448 is your best bet. EVGA 560 Ti 448 Alternatively you can drop down $80 to a normal 560 Ti like this gigabyte one or you can spend a bit more than you intended initially and get a GTX 570 like this one from EVGA. I would choose the 570 if I were in your position, but it's really up to you. Everything else looks fine. You might want to take a look at Samsung's 830 series SSDs. They're apparently very good drives with both performance and reliability.
OK here we go: Budget: Preferrably 1200cad. which is about where my first one was. SSD: I am really interested for this to basically just have my operating system on and maybe a few games that I play ALL THE TIME. Ill be recycling my old hard drive for general use. ALSO the samsung 830 series would appear to not be available on newegg.ca yet. sadly. It looked promising. Motherboard: didnt realize the chosen was Micro ATX. See newest build. Video Card: See newest build. Case: The CM Storm Trooper is like $40 shipping by itself. Plus its more expensive in CAD anyway so it ends up being like $210. The CM in the following build seems like a decent choice to me. Power Supply: Is it really worth it to get 850w or is 650w good? I may follow your logic as future proofing though. Going for 850.. REVISED: For simplicity's sake(omitted obvious parts): Case:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197 SSD:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441 GPU:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125401 PSU:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207011 MoBo:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271 Thanks for the support :)
Nope you wont need more than 550. I would get 550 and get modular.
This is more opinion than anything, but I don't see any big enough differences between the HAF 912 and 922 to justify the $45 price increase. Just bump to a 912 and get the 560 Ti 448 if it's still in budget, if not keep everything how it is now and you're set.
I agree if you can get the 912 Advanced or Plus
Oh sorry you're Canadian like me. I wouldn't have recommended the Storm Trooper at the Canadian prices. My apologies. Your new build looks great.
Nope you wont need more than 550. I would get 550 and get modular.
So you would sacrifice SLI in the future for having a modular PSU? I think that's really stupid. You can still cable manage a non modular PSU fine, but having to buy a whole new PSU along with a new GPU if you ever want to do SLI is ridiculous.
I agree if you can get the 912 Advanced or Plus
He lives in Canada. We don't have the HAF 912 Advanced or Plus series here.
Nope you wont need more than 550. I would get 550 and get modular.
550 is bad in the shadow of 560
550 is bad in the shadow of 560
He's talking about power supply wattage, not graphics cards. What kind of "modular" graphics card do you own?
Changed up the case and graphics card. ended with Case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233 Card: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125406 and the 850w xfx PSU. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP! made things easier. Will order monday most likely.
He's talking about power supply wattage, not graphics cards.
Oh. I don't understand what you mean by modular graphics.
