Hello guys, yesterday I uploaded a crowd funding initiative and would like to have advice on it. I won't post the link since I don't want the thread to be closed for spam, I just want to get opinions about the project from a objective point of view. From here on the propose:
xxxXx is (would be) a laidback approach to cooking, let’s be realistic here… how many of us go to the supermarket thinking about making fancy dishes?, most of us just buy whatever ingredients we like while trying to maintain a somewhat healthy diet and good price balance. That’s why we move the focus to everyday people making everyday food. It’s a cooking community were anybody can join, it doesn’t matter if you’re a college student who is just starting to cook for himself or a master chef. Basically, an average exchange between the user and the app would be something similar to this: Hey there, what’s in your fridge? You log in and go ahead selecting a previously saved “fridge” or create a new one, like it was a “saved game” in a videogame. An account can hold several different fridges and you can name them however you want (home, work, family shop…). Also, if in real life you share a fridge with someone else, you can share it with that person’s account in xxxXx as well, so either of the two accounts have access to it in the app. The fridges are easy to update in any instance of the app. In addition to making recipe searching a lot easier, the app also offers other useful options, like: If you're the type of person that sometimes forgets about ingredients in your fridge to the point where they look like alien's brains, the app can remind you when the expire date of anything in your fridge is getting closer. Less waste, less cleaning, more money in your pocket. Also, you have the option (configurable in the options menu) to let the app ask you if you want to add an ingredient to your grocery list every time you indicate you're out of that product. This process builds an up to date editable grocery list that you can use anytime you feel like going to the supermarket. With that, you can cook this xxxXx shows a list of recipes uploaded by other users of the community, neatly organized by different criteria (food/drink/dessert; breakfast/lunch/dinner; date; rating; prominent ingredients; etc.). You can upload recipes, rate/love other user’s recipes, follow them, comment and upload video responses of you trying the recipes, etc. It also has the option to show in the search results recipes for which you have ALMOST all the ingredients, so you can decide if you will cook them without the missing ingredients or go buy them, so you can broaden your cooking horizon without having to buy a bunch of other stuff ;) A search bar is included as well, so you can search recipes partially ignoring the data of your fridge. In this case, the app will pin point which ingredients you already have and which ones not in order to make the recipes you load. This is just the tip of the iceberg as this would be an app in constant evolution once it takes off, possibly getting deals with supermarkets so you can buy ingredients directly from the app, refining the search engine to make it increasingly more intuitive, offering optional additional info about ingredients and recipes, rewardings for the users that get “popular” in the community, etc.
What do you think? ;D
Why on earth would I keep track of everything I consume from my fridge like that? Go shopping, oh great now I need to log everything I bought and all of the expiration dates. I'll gladly stick with not buying every product in existence. It isn't hard to remember what vital ingredients you still have in stock. I'd prefer to simply ask an app for recipes containing X primary ingredient or two. Those apps already exist.
Well, about the expiration date... it's just an option, you can ignore those inputs if you don't care about it. The process of "filling" a fridge is very easy and fast, uploading a whole supermarket buy for 15 days shouldn't last more than 3 minutes.
