http://www.fathomevents.com/originals/series/lordoftherings.aspx I saw an ad for this the other day and I thought that it's pretty cool they are doing this. Basically 3 different nights in June they will be showing The Lord of the Rings extended versions in theaters all around America (Yes, America only it looks like. I'm sorry for the rest of you). Can you imagine yourself sitting in a large dark room with other hairy-footed persons who smell as if they just returned from a year's journey to Lothlorien... for 4 hours? Then this just might be what you have always dreamed of. I personally can't see myself wanting to spend that much time in a theater for all three, even if they are spread out. But I'm planning to at least go see Return of the King because it's just that good.
There's already a thread on this, but now you've gone and put me to sleep tw.. zzz
Are you implying that the LOTR movies are... boring?
Are you implying that the LOTR movies are... boring?
They are, I found them boring and lifeless and I do not enjoy them at all. I also do not like that whole fantasy 'wizards and shit' genre
Are you implying that the LOTR movies are... boring?
Unless you're in a mood for them; they felt like they dragged a bit. Honestly, as amazing as the big screens are, I'd much rather be able to get up and get snacks or take a shit whenever I want - for such a long movie.
I'm sure there will be breaks in between the movies. I actually love LotR so I'll see if I can catch this in the UK.
The movies are too long tho.
They're so well made that I honestly don't care how long they are. The amount of dedication put into these films is unbelievable. Heck, I even find 11 hours (the three movies combined) to be rather short.
They are, I found them boring and lifeless and I do not enjoy them at all.
Thank God you didn't read the books then.
The movies are too long tho.
They're supposed to be, have you even read the books? Thank fucking god they didn't butcher the books down to nothing like they did with Harry Potter
They're supposed to be, have you even read the books? Thank fucking god they didn't butcher the books down to nothing like they did with Harry Potter
oh yes, fuck them for missing the all important elf rights association story arc, or hagrids half brother grom.
oh yes, fuck them for missing the all important elf rights association story arc, or hagrids half brother grom.
There's a whole chapter in the first book that got looked over. Not to mention Peeves, he was originally a pretty big character. Only other book that I've read recently was the beginning of the 4th, and that one had a pretty fucking funny opening chapter too that was completely skipped. The Weasleys are supposed to travel by floo powder to the now boarded up fireplace, bust the whole thing down, and the twins slip Duddley a toffee that makes his tongue swell to the size of a giant snake. Then there's a whole other scene at the Weasleys house where they're levitating tables and making them smash into each other, among other things I can't remember. In the movie it just starts with him at the Weasleys and then they go to the quidditch world cup even though that doesn't even happen until chapter 3 or 4 iirc. They also cut out the whole deal with the campgrounds, the tents, the merchants with all the cool shit they buy, all of that. And there's way more in the rest of the books that got skipped. Yeah, fuck them for taking a fucking awesome book and making a mediocre movie out of it. I fucking lived on those books as a kid, the movie adaption is a joke compared to the original work.
I tried a marathon of all the extended versions when I had flu a while back. Oh god it was long.
I tried doing all 3 but I ended up getting distracted and forgot what was going on. You really do need a break when you're watching them
Man, fuck that shit. I marathoned all 3 extended editions a couple of weeks ago with my fiance and a couple of friends with like 2 or 3 bathroom breaks. It was amazing. I would never see them in theaters though, fuck if I'm sitting in an uncomfortable theater seat for 3 1/2 hours. Did it once when I first saw Return of the King in theaters and it fucked up my back for a week.
i saw all of the 3 extended editions in the same night, when it was over it was 8am. and then i saw i needed to get a life
Are you implying that the LOTR movies are... boring?
No, I'm outright saying it. Who gives a shit about two gay midgets carrying jewelry to a mountain for six hours?
No, I'm outright saying it. Who gives a shit about two gay midgets carrying jewelry to a mountain for six hours?
People who can appreciate a fantasy adventure film? Just because it isn't nonstop action doesn't mean it's bad.
No, I'm outright saying it. Who gives a shit about two gay midgets carrying jewelry to a mountain for six hours?
You're everything that's wrong with today's movie goers.
You're everything that's wrong with today's movie goers.
Nope, I don't like a lot of the tripe they pump out on a regular basis. I just don't like LOTR.
So you don't like fantasy/adventure in general?
Uh, I guess that depends on what you classify as fantasy adventure. I guess I have a hard time with it because of its fanbase. They're worse than Trekkies or Star Wars fans. And by Trekkies and Star Wars fans, I don't mean people that enjoy either or both and find them awesome, I'm talking about the guys who live and breathe it and feel the need to impersonate the most annoying characters from the series because they think it impresses people when really you just want them to go away and take a shower because they smell. I enjoyed How to Train Your Dragon Willow Pirates of the Caribbean. Labyrinth. 300. The Never Ending Story. Jumanji. Hook. Underworld trilogy. (actually now that I think about it, the sequels weren't that great at all) Hellboy films.
What about Pan's Labyrinth?
Yes, that was an excellent film.

You can like a movie and not be associated with it's fanbase. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline]
Yes, that was an excellent film.
Well at least we agree on that

It's also one of the reasons I don't like them, they're so long and boring that I can't even remember what the hell happened. Like seriously, this is what I remember from the movies: LOTR: Gandalf falls in a pit after fighting that demon, 006 gets arrowed, potatoes, boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew (most of this shit I remember because of jokes or memes) TTT: Some dragon does some shit, there's some big battle on a wall (I remember the battle because of a Counter-Strike map) RofK: Bad CGI ghosts That is it.
If they marathon it I probably won't see them in theaters (as I'd much rather do that at home). If they do the seperate films and you can see them in any order, then I would.
it'd be great if they re-released the extended editions all i have is return of the king, i'd love to have the other two

Rocky Horror is pretty short compared to LotR and I still haven't memorized the whole thing.
