Here is some of my, well, Darker photography. These were all done by a really crappy Kodak camera I'm renting from my school, but it gets the job done. Take a look.

I darkened the wall behind me and added a lot of contrast to give it a darker look, It's actually white. I did a terrible job cutting out my hair, because curly unmanageable hair is IMPOSSIBLE to cut out, and I was being rather lazy and just added a 5 pixel thick stroke of black around my body so I didn't have to do as good of a job with the Polygonal Lasso tool.

This picture was taken in a field right next to my apartment complex, at around 1:30 PM.(Believe-it-or-not.) I cut myself out, and just pasted the cut-out over myself in a new layer and put the background into grayscale and darkened it with slightly more contrast. Once that was done, It looked...un-natural. So I made a fake sky to cover up the Jump-Time America and Goodwill building behind me. Then I added a nice looking "Electrify" filter to my body with a red inner glow on my body to make it look not-as-sharp around the edges. Once that was done, it needed one more thing...So I added red thunder to the sky and a Lens Flare in the sky to look like the Moon is shining; one more thing, The lighting Would not co-operate with me AT ALL. it took me more than 7 tries to get it right.
I hope you like these, Anything I can work on/add?
I like it, but the effects look... cheesy, to say the least. I know how hard this is to do, but work on it a little more. Get those details down.

Yeah, the reason why I was so lazy with the Choking one was because I started on it around 5 minutes after I had just finished the Snow one, and that took me FOREVER...Especially because I didn't know what I wanted to do with it, I was just kind of going with whatever came to mind. I spent a good 2 and a half hours on it, then I was like "Oh I'm gonna pretend like I'm choking myself with a belt!" Once I did that, I was just like "I could make this look sexy....byt I'm lazy so no, I'll just stroke it and get it over with." After I uploaded it to Deviant Art, I realized how crappy it looks with the random Stroke on it.
Basically you're quite bad at cutting and editing.
It looks way to cheesy, just bad.
If you can't improvise, then at the very least use some tutorials or whatnot.
I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but you're not good at this.
Nor am I claiming that you should stop doing it if you enjoy it, but this isn't even worthy of a thread.
We really don't need to know how you like to fap, bubby

This is what I am critiquing.
Ok first off, when you increase the contrast of a picture, you are increasing the noise. Which is why your background looks so crappy. Next time, maybe look up a tutorial on levels and curves, along with the dodge and burn tools to figure out how to create contrast.
Secondly, you don't need a perfect cut on your hair, all you need to do is 'feather' it. Basically that means it will fade softly into the background. Look up a tutorial on it.
Thirdly, never EVER add a stroke that large. EVER. You say you added it to hide up how bad you are at the polygonal lasso tool. IT DOESN'T HELP. Your elbow still looks flat. By outlining it you are still drawing attention to it. Look up how to use the pen tool. Feather. Use layer masks. You can't do a crappy cut and expect your picture to look great.
I don't know what is up with the two white circles on your shirt. It looks like you added them. If so, remove them. If not, I guess you can leave them. If you did add them, you were probably trying to create a lighting effect, which didn't work.
Basically, next time look up tutorials on how to do this. This wasn't thread worthy. Your art sucks right now. Don't take it the wrong way, because even my art sucked when I started (still kinda does sometimes). But you need to start with the basics. Learn how to use all the tools first.
Oh, another thing about the watermark- Take out your nickname, and make it gray, so you can barely see it. It draws too much attention away from the picture, bad as it is. Maybe even remove the year too.
You never told us what software you are using, so it'd be nice to know so I could send you a couple tutorials.
They don't come off as dark, they're more like emo-ish and they smell of try-hard.
The effects are cheap and red lightning, heheh, doens't work.
I'm using Photoshop CS5
I have that belt.
