I'm going to Japan for 7 days in September. I'll be staying it Kyoto but purchased a JP Rail Pass so I can pretty much travel anywhere. Any recommendations on what to see/do?
Check out 'dem Chinese cartoons while you're there.
If you have a 3DS, bring it. I hear you get a ton of Street Passes there.
Asians Get yourself on an episode of Gaki no Tsukai
Ramen places. I heard they have good candy. If you're wierd and are into all the moe stuff, or want to have a really awkward time, [del]maid cafes are really popular around there.[/del] [editline]24th June 2013[/editline] Robots. [editline]24th June 2013[/editline] But really, get ramen. It's the only country I know of where you can get real ramen and not that dried, packaged shit.

Maid cafes aren't even mainstream enough to be called 'really popular', and it's more than a little embarrassing to go to one yourself.
But I like that dried, packaged shit
what does dried shit taste like?
what does dried shit taste like?
Chicken and glorified, preservative filled spaghetti. [editline]24th June 2013[/editline] It's good with anchovies and a bit of olive oil mixed in, though.
I believe one place you should check out is the Akihabara district.

Fuck as many Japanese females as possible.
A Japanese Highschool.
The better question is what is there not to see.
Aokigahara Forest or just for the novelty go to Obama
Go to the WWII memorials, like Hiroshima, Iwo Jima, Okinawa. Granted, you'll have to do some island hopping, it'll probably be worth it.
Boku no Pico Action Figures
Grab something from a Japanese vending machine that isn't a drink.
I just got back from japan after about a week and a half. It was pretty fucking cool, a couple of things I need to mention to you OP before you take off. If the elderly stare at you, don't mind them, when I was in sapporo I had two elderly people stare me with death looks. beware of the women that purposely go for foreign men (this can be said with just about anywhere almost... I think.) you'll have a fork and a spoon at most places, but if you're given chopsticks and you feel the need to put them down- don't make them stick upright from your food. the faucet about the toilet bowl is not for washing your hands. Go to sapporo- it's pretty fucking great, though one thing i've noticed in sapporo that my second cousin told me is that "anime's more popular in tokyo" and shit like that. visit their old government building (it's red), and the sapporo beer factory, all you can drink for free. it's pretty sweet. GO TO A PLACE CALLED "ROYAL HOST". THEY'VE GOT THE BEST BEEF CURRY. also if you've got japanese cousins or whatnot, it'll make everything heaps easier. Visit as MANY places as you can, seven days is a bit short imo to go. there's a TON of stuff to see. also soaplands don't accept foreigners.
also soaplands don't accept foreigners.
Why?
Why?

Like other areas of Japan’s sex industry, soaplands usually don’t allow foreign customers. This is partly because of a widespread belief that AIDS is un-Japanese – carried mainly by foreigners – and that many foreigners in Japan have the disease.
http://www.japanfortheuninvited.com/articles/soaplands.html best way I can put it, and that they just generally don't... well accept you as a customer. [editline]24th June 2013[/editline] also OP I was lucky enough to get my dollars exchanged to yen at a 102 yen per dollar rate I think. right now I think it's around 93-92 area, i've got no clue.
Basically eat everything there. Japan has the best food out of any country I've been to.
Go to used game shops, I've heard they usually carry everything CIB and at decent prices too. Make sure you go to one of the Pokemon Centers
Basically eat everything there. Japan has the best food out of any country I've been to.
this. but the desserts are a bit different imo. it feels like everything that I ate related to sweets was extremely light.
GO TO A PLACE CALLED "ROYAL HOST". THEY'VE GOT THE BEST BEEF Curry
Yum beef curry, what city is it in?
Yum beef curry, what city is it in?
they should have it in most places unless i'm wrong. I felt that it was the america's dennys equivalent. I was in sapporo-ishi hokkaido. went to tokyo for 2 days, the people are more open in tokyo than they were in sapporo-ishi.
KitKat Tons of them, in various flavors.
