Valve is releasing a new piece of software called 'Destinations' that uses the source 2 engine for VR photogrammetry. In the description it states that this includes 'The Source 2 tool set used internally at Valve'.

It's not the full SDK
A Destinations "addon" is similar to a Dota 2 custom game. An addon consists of a map, models, materials, Panorama UI files, Lua scripts, etc.--anything that is required to make the addon function.
Full source 2 SDK looks like it to be on it's way though.
ten bucks there'll be hl3 shit on there and everyone will go nuts

If by hl3 you mean stuff from hl2 then probably.

Interesting, wheres that quote from? Re-reading the Destinations page it seems I jumped the gun by saying SDK instead of toolset though. I saw the steam-db twitter post and followed their lead.

It was on the main wiki page for destinations but they removed a lot of the text

I'm pretty sure people stopped caring a long time ago.

I'm pretty sure people are still freaking out about it
I'm pretty sure people stopped caring a long time ago.
Considering there was HL3 stuff in the Dota 2 SDK and people were losing their shit, not really.
I'm pretty sure people stopped caring a long time ago.
not according to valve news network YT paycheck
I'm hoping for some kind of general SDK soon. I love the new Hammer, but I don't care much for Dota.
Here's hoping hammer 2 supports linux and doesn't have as many fatal bugs as the original
How strange that this is released right before E3!
Seriously though, gonna go nuts with this and try to figure out all the neat stuff relating to mapping and such before Garry's Mod 2, goes live. Gotta be ready for those giant RP/TTT maps ya' know?
no one will care about hl3 until solid confirmation from valve themselves shows up
no one will care about hl3 until solid confirmation from valve themselves shows up
Strange, from what I can see, people flip shit everyday of the week if so much as a small mention of it comes from anyone at Valve.

i won't believe it until i see a toothbrushl3.vtf somewhere in the sdk

video released of gaben ejaculating on a turd, #3 after #2 confirmed
I've been hearing this since 2014

i am pretty sure that they will eventually release the full source 2 sdk
I just want to see if the source 2 SDK will be able to compete with unity and unreal or if people will use it just because it has the word "source" in it's name (I mean I doubt anyone does that since source 1 is horrible, but still, you never know with valve fanboys)

I doubt it. If you compare the man hours spent developing Unreal or Unity vs. Source 2, it shouldn't even be a contest. The other two have already left the starting gate years ago.
That being said, I love messing around with valve's dev tools and this VR sdk won't be an exception.

source 1 came out 12 years ago, it's going to be horrible compared to modern stuff

Yeah, my bad. Source 2 SDK was poorly worded. Should have been Workshop tools or something instead.

Valve did talk Source 2 licensing a while back, and from what they said then it could be a reason. Basically they said it would be free but Steam had to be one of your platforms, it didn't have to be exclusively Steam however. Also sounded like they intended to give full engine source, they have certainly been moving away from middleware so this might actually be possible, only middleware I can think of now is scaleform?

Yeah I think so. I definitely want to see how robust their own physics engine is. In an environment where Source 2 has to compete with visual scripting and heavy documentation, a strong and stable physics engine could be really attractive to certain developers.

I hate that sfm has just become the porn making program. I wouldn't blame valve if they didn't release another one.

Isn't that what Panorama is trying to replace?
I've been hearing this since 2014
It's not happening
Source 2 was only formally announced last year. Which means that anything else you have heard regarding an impending SDK release wouldn't have been from any official sources. So why would you put any stock in that to begin with?
When the source filmmaker 2 drops...
Secretly I hope UE4 Sequencer will eventually replace SFM and become the thing which SFM intended to be. It's not that much harder to use than SFM but it's a lot more powerful if used correctly. Sadly this might not happen until someone starts producing lots of ready-to-use content for it. :frown:

The biggest pull for sfm users is probably the build up of content from mods and games over 10 years or so. Not just source games, but ports as well. There is just so much.
My biggest gripe though is the super dated shaders and the engine in general. You can tell something was made in source in 2 seconds once you work in it for a while.
