• Upgrading my graphic card.

Hey everyone, I decided to replace my Asus HD 5750 with an XFX 6870. I have a couple of questions though, first of all, here is a screenshot of speccy: Hopefully the CPU won't be a bottleneck, but that isin't my main concern. The 2 problems that are worrying me are: 1. Will the card fit in my case? I have a Soprano RS case (pretty much this: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/product.aspx?c=1314&id=1452#Tab1 ) 2. The ultimate question, will my power supply be up for such power? :v: Now I'm not exactly a genius when it comes to power supplies, but I'll just give you a photo of what I found on the sticker: That number is +3.3V (first one), just in case it wasn't readable, also max output 130W - 360W. Thanks for anyone who can help, I'm off to sleep, hope I got all the info you need, thanks again! Here's a detailed view of HWMonitor: Really, the power supply is my main concern now, will it work while playing games such as BF3?
You're pushing it with the power supply.
I see, but will it be enough? I'm not going to do any overclocking.
Minimum power requirement for that GPU is 500w. So 300 isn't going to cut it.
Your system won't even pull 300w at load with a 6870 so yes you'll be fine, as long as the power supply has good rail management and you're not pulling everyone off of one, but that's doubtful.
So should I go for it?
I think that a 5750 is enough for playing on 720p resolution
It's good but for games like BF3, it doesn't quite deliver.
Go for it, if you're un-sure you can also get a 6850 which is a bit worse, about 20w less on full load, but going by quite a few reviews the 6870 pulls 140w on load, and your computer won't pull another 220 at stock.
Got it, testing it now. Thanks Dave!
That PSU can only deliver 20 amperes on it's 12v rail, though. [editline]3rd November 2011[/editline] Disregard that, I'm blind. [editline]3rd November 2011[/editline] Disregard that, I'm blind.
Well, the card is running a bit too hot /w FurMark (about 95 degrees), is this even normal? Also the fan is REALLY LOUD whenever I play a game such as BF3, it goes up to 90+ % fan speed.. Kinda confused right now.
95c?
How is your airflow spree?
Back guys, I tested 20 mins of BF3, set the fan control at 40% (Playing BF3 on auto fan control the fan speed is at 90% :wtc: ), temperature is at a acceptable 75 degrees. So far so good!
You cannot upgrade it. You can buy new one though.
You cannot upgrade it. You can buy new one though.
what
75c is hardly acceptable I would say. My 460 usually crashes at 70 :v:

Well, they're different cores aren't they. I remember my rusty old X1950XTX used to run at about 200c with no problems at all, yet when my shiney new 560Ti goes above -6c it explodes. Exaggerating of course, but you get the idea. Hope the 6870 is good!
That isn't normal. My 4870 can run without problems at 95c.
Had this card for a year and it has given me problems a lot. :v:
My old GT8800 runs at 85c idle and 115-125c on load, and it has been working for years, and still is!
Keep in mind that at low resolution(720P is low resolution), it's more about the CPU. Your GPU doesn't really become the limiting factor till you start asking more from it.
My old GT8800 runs at 85c idle and 115-125c on load, and it has been working for years, and still is!
That doesn't mean it's a good thing, stop giving advice.
I'm running an XFX 6870 with a Phenom II x4. I think that the cpu becomes very important when playing games released after 2010, for example BC2 and BF3. I used to play BC2 with a 6870 and a Dual-core phenom, and it ran like utter shite. Upgrading to a quadcore tripled the FPS I got. I think you should get the 6870, however, don't expect anything amazing on newer games with that i3. I'd upgrade to a quad-core, be it an AMD Phenom or an Intel i5, that way you'll probably get rid of any bottlenecks.
According to benchmarks, i3 2100, i5 2500k and i7 2600k perform almost equally in BF3.
That's probably in the heavily scripted action film, not multiplayer...
I get the same framerates as a friend with the same graphics card, but a 2500k in MP on the same server.
BF3 runs at about 40 FPS, ultra settings, 64 player server Caspian Border
I have an old Athlon dual-core and the BF3 beta ran well enough for me. Most games don't utilize the entirety of 4 cores yet, but I think I have too much shit running in the background.
