Ok well here's the story, I currently have windows 7 but I lost the product key, since mine is a custom build computer built by some other guy. Now what I do have is a Windows Vista product key. If I install vista will it mess up anything?
It'll automatically mess up everything. Because it's Vista. Stupid bandwagon hate aside, it shouldn't really mess anything up. You'd have to back up all the crap you wanna keep though. GOD IT'S SO HARD TO TYPE WITHOUT MAKING TYPOS DUE TO THESE GODDAMN SNOWFLAKES

Is there some down-grade thing i have to do?
No downgrading that I'm aware of..
You will miss windows 7 aero though, I have a skin on my Vista just because of that.
I know, but the fact that I can't find my product key won't let me keep Windows 7. Well I can keep it, but I have to reinstall every month. :/
I guess i'll look one last time to see if I can find the manual for Windows 7.. should be in there,
I doubt you can downgrade to windows vista without screwing something up. Hence why Microsoft gave free upgrades to Windows 7 to people who owned Windows Vista.
Damn it, looks like if I can't find the manual i'm gonna have to get a new one. Hope it isnt too expensive.
read thread wrong
To above people, with updates, vista is perfectly fine, That is pure bandwagon faggotry, also installing vista on your HDD your copy of 7 is on will wipe the drive, so back everything up.
During the installation of Vista you just format the 7 partition and go on with your life. Easy, clean installation.
Whats wrong with Windows 7 compared to Vista.
I think there are programs/places where you can see what was the serial with what you registred your OS. I know on XP there is. On Vista it is Control Panel -> System -> Scroll down.
Go download a crack to unlock the security system of Windows 7, which will allow you to enter a key given by the person that you would download it from and it would work. (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - SteveUK))

If so, then you could find a "keyfinder" software - it'll allow you to find the product keys on your system :) If not, well then it's too bad - but you could try install Windows Vista, from what I understand from this ...
