• Cheap-O Case: What's my best option $50 or less?
    22 replies, posted
Alright, I just recently got a new power supply (Corsair 700W) and gpu (GTX 580), and my current case, one of HP's generic plastic crap cases, has been getting very cramped and toasty. So, as the title suggests, I am looking into what my best case options are for preferably $50 or less (cannot go over $60 at the moment), based on decent airflow and space. Mid-towers are preferred. System Specs: And my mobo is an MATX model. I don't usually look at cases, and I don't want to do something stupid and waste my money. So far, all the advice I've gotten here on other matters has been great. Thanks in advance.
HAF 912, Xigmatek Asgard II, Antec Two Hundred, etc. A lot of the Rosewill cases are high quality for their price. Also, why a gif?
Also, why a gif?
I was too lazy to use print screen, so I used the snipping tool. The jpeg looked terrible, and I was too dumb to save it as a png. [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] Also, thanks for all the advise. These cases look pretty nice. Surprised to see what I could get for $50 [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] Alright, I've been checking out all of the Rosewill products, and I am liking what I am seeing. Right now I am strongly considering the Challenger. However, I am not sure if it will fit my GTX 580, which is 10.5in (26.7cm) long.
why would you buy a 500$ graphics card if you know you would have needed another case for it to fit
why would you buy a 500$ graphics card if you know you would have needed another case for it to fit
It does fit at the moment, my larger problem is with an excess of cables that I do not want to chop off. I'll post a picture in a moment... [editline]31st December 2010[/editline] Alright, here is a picture of my current case: Trust me, I made sure the gpu would fit before I went and dumped $500 into it, along with my new psu. What I did not account for was the surplus of power cords. Everything fits, its just that my current case has terrible airflow, which partnered with cramped quarters has resulted in of my parts getting a little to hot (nothing dangerous, just ten or so degrees over the norm).

I second the Blackbone up there. Cheap, but sturdy. Very roomy, cable management was easy. Working perfect for me. Had a similar situation before and it fixed it outright.

To be honest that NZXT case isn't that bad, it has more features than any other case in that price range and the Rosewill alternatives don't really look any less 'ricer'. Unless it can be proved that the Rosewill cases have much better airflow/build quality then I'd go for the the NZXT [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Actually this isn't true, if it was my choice I'd save up another $20 and get a decent case like an antec 300 illusion or a CM690 II [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] Also if you count the rebate this is under $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042&cm_re=antec_300-_-11-129-042-_-Product
I like fried rice I'll take it :downs:
That really isn't that ricer. I think I saw about 2 lights, which aren't exactly bright. I still wouldn't but it personally. But it looks like one of their better cases,
The Antec 300 is $59 in Australia, very nice looking case. Good blend of "gamer" looks and just simple clean non-ricer design.
Thanks for all the help, once again I am surprised at what I can get for under $100, let alone $50. Right now I'm really looking at either the Rosewill Challenger or Antec 300. Both look like excellent cases.
the 300 used to be good but nowadays there are better options for a similar price if it had any sort of cable management it might still be alright
I have the 300 myself and it's a good solid case, but yeah if you want any cable management be prepared to use a dremel as I did
Three hundred is amazing. Few mods and it's better then anything above it's price range.
Build a case out of LEGO.

This is just my opinion/suggestion.
It's a fairly good case, I built a PC for a friend and he insisted on that one. Very sturdy and has great airflow, though I did have some trouble with a PCI card fitting (Ended up removing the screw and letting it sit there).
I have just recently used the Challenger linked above in a recent build and may I say its quite nice. Very nice space, good hard drive mounting, cable management. And it doesnt look too fuckin crazy and or stupid
the 300 used to be good but nowadays there are better options for a similar price if it had any sort of cable management it might still be alright
Yeah the tiny little compartment isn't great for keeping cables in. Even with a modular PSU I had trouble storing the leftovers of longer cables in there.
