• External hard drive unallocated disk space after windows-repair function?
    7 replies, posted
Hello, I have a huge problem. After my external hard drive gave multiply errors, some friends suggested to use the "repair" function, this is when you right click on a drive > properties > tools > error checking So I did, after some Google-ing it said no data would be touched, so I decided to use this function. It said I had to restart my PC, after it was done so I did. Now, I restarted my PC, plugged it in again and it doesn't show up, so I go under computer>manage>disk management and see it's now "Unallocated disk space". It said it wouldn't touch any of my data, why did it ?! (PS: I know I should right click it, create a new volume but would I then get my data back? Before i do anything else that's stupid ) I really would love some help getting my data back, it has/had some important stuff for school on there, and backups of my laptop, phone, website and more. Please help me out, Kind regards -Siem Before I forget : Specs : Windows 7, The external drive : Verbatim 500GB External drive, 467 useable
Error checking only deletes corrupted files. If all the disk space is unallocated, your best bet would be to create a new volume then use Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva to see if you can salvage anything

I would suggest using a program like Active Partition Recovery: http://www.partition-recovery.com/ They have a bootable ISO somewhere, but the Windows version works just as well.

Any help, please?
