My parents own a business. They aren't very computer intelligent. All they use is everything that is included in Microsoft office 2007 professional, along with sending that information through multiple connections, like a fax, email, and mail.
Their computer has crashed 2 times now and can't happen again. Will a mac system be more useful for their uses? I figured it would have a friendly user interface, which my parents can easily access the things they need.
Does mac have similar software to office 2007 also?
Thanks

You came to FP about an OS? Prepare for an ongoing argument why x is better than y because:
It's better to research Mac and Win and decide for yourself.
as far as I know they no longer sell Office 07 for OSX, they'll have to get the latest version of Office.
Can you just give advice and opinions jesus christ
it's only crashing because someone has fucked with it
PC... running Mac OS X.
Fine. Stick with Windows and tell them to stop fucking it up.

What are the specs of the current computers, they could be crashing because they are too old. Also investing in Macs would be quite expensive
Why not linux?

get Windows and tell them to just do their work and stop fucking around or pay a lot more for a Mac that has less chance of fucking up because they can't do anything with it
Stop being ignorant. It depends Can we at least figure out who made the OEM's (assuming it is one of course) We need more info bro. I would go with PC or mac, I can swing both.
Jesus christ someone lock this.
I should note, that when their computer crashed for the last time, the hard drive failed. Had to get a new one.
And this is for when it's time to upgrade their computer to something more modern.
and the second time?
stop buying maxtors
Macbook Pro + Linux

Western Digital
just stick with Windows.
Mac sounds like it would be a better solution for your parents.
And I believe they make Office for Mac. http://www.microsoft.com/mac/default.mspx
I've had 2 Western Digitals that have died on me, so I have gone with Seagate since 2005, and not one dead drive yet. Seagate's 5 year warranty wins me over other drive manufacturers' 3 year warranty.
mac sounds like a better solution unless they need some specific software that only works on Windows.

I like how just a few weeks ago everyone was like what the fuck is wrong with maxtor, and as soon as I explain their problems everyone is like lol maxtor is bad
Mac is a dumbed down version of PC, if they aren't very savvy with technology I'd get them a Mac.

Gross oversimplification of Mac OSX. Still the correct answer though.
It's called the :bandwagon:
I say stick with Windows, it shouldn't crash unless they fuck around with it or some parts are defective...
This was a response to buttsex.

If they aren't savvy then I'd assume it would be difficult learning a whole new OS.

Why spend $2000 on a laptop just to use Linux?

Well, I'm talking about knowing what you are doing kinda things. Its really hard to fuck shit up in a Mac, because its so restricted, but on a PC, if you don't know what you are doing, you will fuck it up.
Get a windows and install Fedora on it, Linux is the best when it comes to buisnesses

Wasn't aware that Fedora was now a Windows application.
