Wasn't Cyrodiil not fifty years before Oblivion a massive jungle before they decided that that generic fantasy landscapes were the flavour of the day?
But isn't 2E 583 quite a while away from when Oblivion was based which is 3E 433? Surely there'd be significant differences, the only thing that should be identical is the White Gold Tower and a majority of the landscape.

No shut up transcription error :tinfoil:

Someone asked the developers about this and they just said "nope, it wasn't like that".
Don't you think Bethesda has the right to retcon their own lore?
Don't you think Bethesda has the right to retcon their own lore?
Doesn't change the fact that it was kind of a dumb retcon.
8bit games have better animations than ESO

A massive jungle with rice fields and an Asian/Roman empire theme.

I thought that was Eslweyr? (no pun)
fuck
As long as there's shit to populate that I'd love it, but I'm seriously doubting they have done that :v:

I checked the pocket guide and it sounds more like an Aztec/Rome mix. I wonder where I got that previous thought from.
All I know is that this sounds like an attempt to nostalgia pander for Oblivion so more people will think it's an Elder Scrolls game. Maybe i'm too cynical about it, but that's just how it seems to me.

It completely is.

Blame it on the CHIM
Someone asked the developers about this and they just said "nope, it wasn't like that".
Actually, I think they used CHIM as an excuse. One of the Emperors achieved CHIM and used it to terraform Cyrodiil IIRC.

The problem is it isn't Bethesda making the retcon, it's ZeniMaX Online.

Yes, but that was after the time period ESO is supposed to be in.
Wheeler confirmed that Zenimax’s version of Cyrodiil was “very, very large” - so much so that it’d take roughly 20 to 30 minutes to cross from North to South on foot.
They make it sound like it's bigger than in Oblivion, but then you read the last part.
Meh, I don't really care larger maps. I'd rather a smaller open world where all the quality is packed densely.

I do not use fast travel in any Elder Scrolls game I play. Paid transport systems, like Silt Striders, are fair game, but nothing otherwise. Lemme tell you, Oblivion was a BIG fuckin' map.
