Vinyl Thread 2013 - "I queued up for 6 hours on record store day and all I got was this lousy £150 b

The last thread closed for reasons unknown (Garry!) so here shall the discussion continue.
I recently received my Los Campesinos! Heat Rash back issues. So now I finally have physical copies of songs I've had on my computer for years (even if the first one had sold out. Hmph).
Also here's my collection:

Most of these are CDs but for some reason Discogs doesn't let people other than you view the folders you've created.
In response to kitteh-nators last post where else am I going to post it there is no cd thread so I figured this thread is symbolic of the ownership of a physical copy of the music which should be admirable no matter what form it is in
CDs are fun too and deserve some love because they are a fading artform too so let's not get all weird about it
Anyway Corky I really like your collection, nice prog
My collection slowly grows.

Also I picked up GY!BE - Yanqui U.X.O, and Junius - The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist recently.
Can we maybe buff the OP with some vinyl-related stuff for newbies and the like?

Australia doesn't have many quality record stores, however there are two which I particularly enjoy:

Redeye is overpriced by a bit, but the selection is outstanding and they really know their stuff
Egg records is the other one, less selection but still very good taste and it's cheaper
So I went to Rise Music in Bristol and got these today. I'll have to make a second trip, they had some good stuff.

The Converge is on clear red, Coheed on turqoise. The Mogwai record has an etched d-side. Really nice packaging on all of them.
Your post reminds me. I need to post what I've got in the past couple months. I'll do it when I get back from class.
Wow this forum died when the thread cull happened. Anyway...
It's difficult going into those Vinyl-Record-Impulsive-Buyer-Collector-Dump-Auction places where its just filled with a million copies of doowop records and unlabeled 7"s. I feel like I'm in the web of a black widow whenever the owner strikes up a conversation with me and I can't find a non-awkward way to leave the conversation and his vinyl lair without buying anything.
And I keep going back because its right by my bus stop. I go in thinking "there might be something new, I bet" but its always the same Talking Heads album for $40 and the one Yeah Yeah Yeahs album for $30. Oh and an extensive laser disc collection.

Looking to buy a player soon, what should i look for? The ability to hook up to my own speakers is my only necessity really, unless you guys know just a really good reason for usb hookup

If you're not too concerned about having top notch quality, you might want to invest in an ION USB turntable. As far as I'm aware they allow playback through your computer speakers, if that's what you were referring to. Look at [url=http://i.imgur.com/vWKt1ub.jpg]this guide[/url] for more help on buying turntables.
their selection changes to what that I would care about?
ION USB works fine for me. Very easy to use, good price, sound better than most people with purely analog systems seem to think

"re-releasing" white stripes material...
[editline]2nd March 2013[/editline]
the only reason to get that repress is if you're a moron that gets "all colors" or whatever, stupid shit
but this time its on CrAzYyYYY JACk whItE XCLsv 3rD maN vinYl!!
you can get nearly any pressing of it for under $30
[QUOTE=RoadOfGirl;39769194]

what if it was impossible to get anything else
what then
what do we do
what
i dont get it
[editline]2nd March 2013[/editline]
i got 13 records into RYM before I got bored
Represses make sense for stuff that's out of print or really old and that's all
repressing a 90s record that you can already find in your local store is just stupid
it's not really a repress if it is still being repressed?
but Elephant's been out of press for many years now I think.

noooo, i have one and while it looks okay for a cheapo table, it sounds like ass!!
You could replace shit on there, like take it apart and remove the preamp and stuff but it really ain't worth the hassle for such a turntable.
