Well, I'm looking to get a new gaming capable computer in the near future. I made up a 600$ (700 if you include tax) build. I'm looking to play source games as well as the stalker series and the odd next gen game (really, I need a computer that will play what I currently have, and games coming out in the future) and I have 2 builds to choose from, one being fairly cheaper then the latter, and being sold from a shop near were I live. Prices are in Canadian Dollars. 1 is prebuilt and one is a custom one I will build myself 1st is the custom one I will build (715$ after taxes and shipping) Motherboard: MSI 760GM-E51 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130254 Video Card: Radeon HD 4850 1GB http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150351 Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition @ 3.2Ghz http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808 RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 clocked @ 1333 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253 HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073 Case and PSU: APEVIA Case and 500Wat PSU http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144140 Second build is a prebuilt Quad core Intel (500$) http://www.mikescomputershop.com/intel-quad-core-q8300-system-p-15030.html I am aware that the build above doesn't come with a Video Card as far as I know, but the money I save from this build will alow me to buy one. so, which one is better / worth the money? thankyou for helping me in advance. also to add, I have a 19 inch 4:3 LCD monitor, and a 19 inch component 16:9 HD TV, so a monitor is not a problem, I also have a reliable MS mouse from our families first computer that works just fine, and a logitech keyboard I bough last year.
Well an obvious problem with the one from the computer shop is that there is no specific information on parts thus no information on build quality etc. I would go with the custom build its a nice quad core with DDR3 rather then ddr2 his HDD could be a slow piece of sh*t although i think you should get this for the HDD: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181&Tpk=samsung%20spinpoint%20f3%20500gb Have a 1TB in my build its fast, quiet been working solid for only 1 month but not a single glitch or problem. One quick note you did not mention an operating system in your post no os needed or did you forget?
Do not get that case and shitty shitty Powersupply. [editline]02:19PM[/editline] Use this. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12207951 If you want to you can swap out the 945 for a 955, and maybe get a case like the HAF 922 or Cooler Master 690 II Advanced.
Go with the post above me.

In that case, I'd go with the custom build, though I'd get a bigger HDD, like 1 TB

Save up a little more and go with Ghostofme's suggestion.
gonna get a different build without a GPU, but the Mobo has a good onboard card for it's price, so I'll just deal with it till christmas.

Processor http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103871 Mobo http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130254 RAM http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253 HDD http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181 PSU http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182038 Case http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811164093 I'm getting the part recomendations from my friend, I'm just coming here for a second opinion, and he tells me I should get a ATI Radeon HD 5770 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127490&cm_re=hd_5770-_-14-127-490-_-Product and after tax and all it's about the same price as my original custom build (706$), only I gotta wait a little while for the vid card. also, will the video card work because it's a PCI E 2.1 x16 and the Mobo only supports PCI E 2.0 x16
This GPU http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161269 And this PSU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171042 Case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147023
why does the case matter if it fits everything? and a diff friend recomended the GTX 460 over the previous card I posted http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125334

The Rosewill Blackbone does that very nicely, and it has an all black interior, which is awesome, and it has a nice design to it. [editline]03:20AM[/editline] Cases do not just hold parts.
mine have always just held parts and none of my builds have ever suffered from serious overheat problems (any they have suffered from have been solved by cleaning out dust)
Here, get this. Its the build I made earlier but with a few differences, and its in your price range. http://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12207951 [editline]03:25AM[/editline]
mine have always just held parts and none of my builds have ever suffered from serious overheat problems (any they have suffered from have been solved by cleaning out dust)
You'll know what I mean once you own a quality case. [editline]03:25AM[/editline] And have you ever looked at the temps if your PC?
700$ after tax and shipping, this is 800...
